“Perfect place to explore Belize”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2009

This is the perfect place to explore Southern Belize on your own. I spent a week out in San Ignacio doing tours to Tikal and the ATM Cave, and had spent a few days on Caye Calker. ATM and Tikal were definitely worth it , but I found Caye Calker too touristy. I headed to Stann Creek, and stopped in at the Hummingbird Inn after checking out it's web site in Cayo. The Inn is beautiful, with large, clean, new rooms, with giant showers. The house is on a beautiful property with many birds (including parrots!) and the rooms have access to a large Veranda overlooking the Maya Mountains. The owner, David, was helpful in organizing several trips I wanted to do. I went out to the Southern Cayes snorkling for the day, and David arranged for me to go to the southern Lagoon for some fishing and manatee watching. He even came along. All these places were within half an hour of the Inn. David also took me to see a Garifuna drum maker in Dangriga. I also took my rental to several national parks not far from the Inn, including the Cockscomb Basin;and took a day trip to the Blue Hole National Park, about forty minutes away. If you''re looking for exceptional living quarters, but want to experience a Belize not so touristed, this is the place to stay. The food was great too, and David was flexible about dinner time if I was going to return a bit later. The cook, Bonita, serves up local food mostly, but always asked what I would like to eat that day.

“Like Visiting Friends”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 March 2008

If you are looking for a relaxed atmosphere, good food (vegetarian meals upon request - thanks Bonita) and that feeling of visiting old friends rather than the sterile experience of a large hotel or resort, then Hummingbird Inn is the place. My wife and I stayed with David for a week and he was always willing to offer advice on good hikes and sites to see. From the Inn you can easily make trips to Bocawina park, Five Blues, Xunantanich and many other locations or just go sit under Mr. Buller's house on the beach in Dangriga and have a few beers. I must admit that the easy going feel sabotaged our more ambitious plans and we will have to make more trips to see all that Stann Creek has to offer. I hope this helps; feel free to shoot us an e-mail if you have any questions.

“Wonderful travel experience”

Our stay at Hummingbird Inn Belize was a pleasant surprise to us. This was our third trip to Belize and our first to Stann Creek District. We booked directly with the hotel based only on conversations with the owner. We were immediately impressed with the facilities. The rooms are spacious, well decorated, air conditioned, and provide wonderful views of the well maintained grounds. The dining area is spacious, the lounge area is well lit and very pleasant.

We were welcomed and treated almost like family by David Gobeil, manager and son of the owner. The staff were equally pleasant and helpful. We enjoyed several hours of lively and pleasant conversation with them. The hotel is located within easy travel distance to gasoline service and grocery stores. It is a 45 minute drive to Blue Hole National Park or 20 minutes to Cockscomb Jaguar Sactuary. The beaches of Dangriga and Hopkins are not far.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Hummingbird Inn and the hospitality afforded us. We will return on future trips to Belize and recommend it to anyone travelling to the Stann Creek area. This is an A-1 accommodation!

“No ho-hum inn”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2008

The Hummingbird Inn is conveniently located on the Hummingbird Highway, making it a short distance away from Dangriga, Hopkins, the Mayflower Bocawina National Park and the Cockscomb Jaguar Reserve. You’re just minutes away from exciting adventures and Belizean life.

The inn itself is situated in a pristine estate with a flower-lined drive and an expansive lawn where you can take leisurely strolls. The variety of flowers attracts a multitude of beautiful butterflies and of course, hummingbirds. You can watch them from the enclosed veranda whilst eating a bountiful breakfast of fresh fruits, pastries, coffee and juice. The continental breakfast is included with the reasonable room cost.

In the evenings, it would be wise to pay the extra fee for dinner as Connie serves up wonderfully authentic Mayan dishes sure to please the palate. Fireflies create a unique light show, flickering all about the lawn and sky.

Innkeeper Dave is a gracious host who will gladly tell you all about Belize and is always up for a nice chat. The rooms are a good size for a couple or if you have a family, there’s a large room with two double beds. All the rooms have access to either a private or shared balcony.

This is an inn you can go back to again and again.
