“Private Island Paradise”

Thatch Caye is probably the closest I will ever get to feeling pampered on my own private island. Located nine miles off shore from Dangriga, Thatch Caye is about 1 mile long and accommodates small groups. The very friendly staff made sure my husband and I are well taken care of.

On the way over by boat, our captain spotted dolphins. They playfully jumped out of the water entertaining my husband and me. What a great start to a wonderful week ahead. Our casita was spacious and clean with windows all around capturing the sea breezes. I particularly enjoyed the hammocks on our roof. We had a view of Bird Island, a National bird sanctuary. The next day took a guided tour by boat and saw Frigate birds and brown footed boobies. We also visited the Smithsonian research center and had a tour of the facility that monitors reef activities.

The meals were delicious. I have specific food requirements and the staff went out of their way to make sure I was satisfied. Indeed I was, beyond expectations.

We booked a full day tour of the Jaguar Jungle Reserve on the mainland. We had our own tour guide and hiked about 2 miles to a small waterfall. We didn’t see any jaguars, they are nocturnal, but our guide gave us a wealth of information regarding the jungle plant life of Belize. We also stopped at the Marie Sharp hot sauce factory. If you buy anything over 3 ounces make sure not to put it in your carry-on luggage – mine was confiscated at the airport.

Relaxing on the beach, swimming, snorkeling and kayaking are some of the activities I enjoyed on the island. I wish to thank everyone at Thatch Caye for making my vacation so perfect.

You were so pleased with our stay at Thatch Caye last year that we decided to return. It was a first for us as we usually like to go to new places. The only locations to which we have returned, are Thailand and Bhutan.
A lots of expectations...And we came back planning a third trip. Thatch Caye is a superbe island kept pristine by the owner and his team. Chris does an amazing job at running this place. We always felt that our needs were heard and taken care of. Diving and snorkeling are excellent, lead by a wonderful and attentive diver master. And if you feel like doing nothing, Thatch Caye is the best place on earth disconnecting from the never quitting world and relaxing. See you next year!!!

Room Tip: I know the casitas are more expansive than the cabanas but if you plan to stay for several days, I r...

Recently stayed here as part of a group trip. The hotel, which takes up an entire small and narrow island, is all about the water. The rooms are clean and comfortable; I enjoyed my cabana over the water. They currently have a good chef, and the tasty food included local specialities. I got hungry during the long stretch between lunch and dinner, but that's probably my own fault for not bringing snacks or asking if snacks were available.
The staff are friendly, professional and accommodating. The snorkeling was good and I heard the diving was good too. I found the island a bit claustrophobic, having never stayed at this type of resort before, and don't think I will stay at such an isolated place again. This is not a criticism of Thatch Caye in particular.

Room Tip: Over-water cabanas at the north end of the island are private but decks are visible to adjacent caba...

“Un-belize-able! (Sorry...)”

This is a little piece of paradise off the coast of Dangriga. The resort is beautiful and feels very exclusive, despite being reasonably priced. We stayed in one of the cabanas which were lovely bungalows out over the water - these are spaced well apart and it is lovely falling asleep in your hammock with the sound of water all around you.

The staff were really helpful and friendly - especial mention to Roberto for making us feel so welcome. It is also worth mentioning that the food was excellent - following a few negative reviews a few years ago the management have really worked hard on this and have employed an excellent chef called Alberto who created some amazing dishes for us. We wanted to take him home with us when we left!

The resort is very romantic and the diving is fabulous (although the trip out to Glover's Reef was somewhat hair-raising!) We stayed for 6 days and really could have stayed much longer. If you are keen on diving, snorkelling or kayaking then it is not easy to get bored here! There are so many lovely spots on the Caye ans it is always possible to find a secluded spot to sit, gaze at the sea and drink a cocktail or Belikin beer.

It is also true that the resort is very eco-friendly, but unlike some places this is not achieved by compromising on comfort, style and service. The only time the eco-friendliness is noticed is that the processed rain water in the showers has a slight scent - but this is a small price to pay for knowing your slice of paradise is being delivered in a sustainable way.

It's beautiful - go if you possibly can!

Room Tip: The cabanas (bungalows over the water) are wonderful and we felt they were more spectacular than the...

“Most Amazing Honeymoon We Could Ask For!”

Amazing. Accommodations were great, just got home and the weather was beautiful! Staff was amazing, after a week we were so upset to leave because we felt like we were leaving family. Steve is a gracious host looking to cater to you and your needs and ensure a good time. Chris the manager was so helpful in making us feel welcome. Chico made sure that we set up our excursions well so that we always had good weather. Richie and Albin were amazing snorkeling guides who showed up some amazing reefs. Spotted Eagle Rays, huge grouper, parrot fish, amazing schools of beautiful reef fish were seen. Oh and Richie made sure to get me and my wife a pair of spiny lobsters for dinner and plenty of conch too!

And the dinner, Alberto made every meal delicious and full of soul. Trina and Roberto made you feel so comfortable and at home, and Jess livened up the bar with good music and great drinks. Darrington showed you around the mainland, and if you have a chance to go to the Founder's Day Celebration in Dangriga, he's the man to take you!

We loved everything, the guests became friends by the second day seeing each other, nobody was on top of each other, and we were all excited to meet up at meals and here about everyone's adventures from the day. In short, WE WILL BE BACK!!!! The value is incredible and you get so much for what you pay for. We stayed in a Casita and fell asleep in the rooftop hammocks almost every night, and enjoyed coffee from them every morning. I miss the sand and sun already, but most, I miss the people, the atmosphere, and the feeling of pure relaxation. Would recommend to everyone!

Room Tip: Casita is well worth the value, stayed in Shark and had an amazing view of the bird sanctuary and ea...
