Diane and I visited Belize and we found an excellent abode in Copa Banana. Connie and Greg have created a homelike environment in Central America. Living in Kansas and visiting Belize for the very first time, we were unsure of what to expect. Connie went out of her way to make us feel at home. She even waited up for us, as our travel plans had gone awry and we arrived after midnight. The same morning, after some sleep, Connie took us with her and showed us some local businesses which provided us with an overview of the town, giving us an opportunity to get our bearings. Thereafter, we both felt safe and adventurous in Corozal Town. We have nothing but good things to say and highly recommend the Copa Banana. We will definitely stay there again on our next visit to Belize.

We moved here on a tip after spending one night an a neighboring hotel that was very disappointing. Two nights in the Copa Banana put us back in a nice state of mind. The place is clean, quiet, and very nicely appointed. Connie pointed us in the direction of several local restaurants (highly recommend June's for breakfast and Patty's for dinner). We met some real nice locals (expats though....Corozal is very geared to the expat community) and just genuinely enjoyed hanging out. If you find yourself in Corozal, you will not go wrong with this one.

I felt like at home here at the Copabanana. Connie and her husband are very good hosts, they work hard to make everybody feel at home. They even invited me and other guests for Thanksgiving. The place is not that far from restaurants and stores, and I could use the bicycle to go around.
The only thing I did not like of my stay, but this has absolutely nothing to do with Copabanana, is the fact that I expected to be swimming here in Corozal, but the ocean looked muddy all the time I have been here. I wish I would have known this in advance. In Corozal there also not much to see and 3 days are enough. I stayed one week and got bored. Local people are great though, food is fresh and inexpensive and as a solo woman traveler I never felt threatened or in danger. So, in spite of the muddy looking ocean, this was anyway a positive experience.

We arrived a little late in the day and got the feeling that the owner was expecting us a little earlier - maybe she was just having an "off" day. The guest house had not been opened up nor the air conditioning run, so it was super hot inside. After reviewing the 2 page list of rules we found that the pool closed at 5pm, so we were out of luck there - plus, the cleaning folks had failed to leave beach towels for us anyway. The rules also said not to run the air while out, so we left to find someplace to eat and didnt turn it on. Big mistake, as we found out later that the air conditioner was broken. Due to the late hour and the welcome we had received earlier, I did not contact the owner that evening. Water pressure was non-existant and a bar of soap from a previous guest was left in the shower - eewww! We also had to park the car in a grassy area that ended up with our feet sinking into the smelly muck - up to our ankles!!

Otherwise, the actual place was clean, neat and inexpensive. The owner apologized the next day for the air conditioner and also mailed me home a sleeping mask that I left there (the street light shines right on your face while in bed in the front room).
