“Best of Show in All Categories”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 March 2011

Our group of eight stayed for one week and had no issues whatsoever with the quality of service provided by the owners. Every detail was handled in a friendly, positive, and professional manner. The response was immediate and clear for any request we presented. While staying there, another larger group checked in yet the staff adapted to both groups without impacting the high level of service. Rooms were spacious and clean. Bathrooms functioned as expected. The view is simply amazing. This is our group's second visit and we look forward to many more to come.

“Great and friendly place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2010

Many people view Corozal as an overnight stop on the way through to Belize from Mexico. We ended up staying here for 5 days wandering around the town, making friends with the locals and using it as a base to take the bus out to Orange Walk for the incredible Lamanai tour all organised by the Guesthouse. It was a great insight into the real Belize, and a quiet sleepy town with good bars, cheap food and incredibly friendly people. Our stay at the Guesthouse was fabulous, lovely room, great value, great breakfast and friendly staff. The Purple Toucan is definitely the place to hang out, Jose and his wife are friendly and we were even invited to a family barbecue with a huge Jack fish barbecued and prepared by Jose himself. I would definitely recommend staying here at the Guesthouse and passing a few days here in Corozal.

“Great Value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2009

As a budget minded traveler, I'm always looking for exotic travel at a reasonable price. With this in mind (and, with a little computer research), I thought it might be interesting & fun to visit Belize. I found a low cost flight to Cancun (Mexico) and I arranged for transportation to Belize (as far as Belize City-if I wanted to go that far) via ABC Shuttle service for $100.00 (which is a great price considering that one of the vulture cabbies at Cancun airport wanted to charge $60.00 just for a ride to the bus station). Anyway, I had pre-selected Hokol Kin Guesthouse in Corozal to be my base of operations. Hokol Kin (actually Hok'ol K'in-loosely translated "sunrise") is a clean, basic, perfectly functional guesthouse located on the bay's edge-ideal for budget minded guests. There is a small restaurant & separate bar located on the premises. The owners (Aaron & Lucy) are friendly & laid-back. As may be known, Belize is an English speaking country. So, for me, getting around via bus was easy, inexpensive-but, slow. Corozal is close to the Mexican border. At the border is a duty free zone with a few casinos and a million shops all seeming to sell the same things. A place to be avoided-particularly because one needs to pay an "exit fee" to visit there. Which makes no sense because the duty free zone is in Belize. But, the place (Belize) is -after all- located in Central America, so, it would probably be a little unrealistic to expect things to be completely problem free. Back to Corozal. It's close to Mayan sites (one dating from around 500 BC is right across the bay). In fact, Corozal was built on top of an ancient Mayan city. With proper planning, one could stay busy for 5 or 6 days (without losing any time) depending on what the person wanted to do (Mayan sites, diving, cave tubing, parks, Belize City (has a reputation of being run down & dangerous), etc. I don't think Corozal has any real night life-it's just quiet & peaceful (a few bums might ask for some money, but, I don't think it's dangerous). So, to sum up-Belize is interesting. Corozal is a nice place to stay in Belize. In Corozal, Hokel Kin is a nice place to stay for the no frills traveler (although they do have wireless internet, airconditioning in some rooms & cable tv). As far as I know, the only really bad things about Belize are the strong sun & millions of mosquitoes.

“Great value and service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2009

Great little place - spacious and clean rooms, good food in the restaurant at very reasonable prices, and excellent service (coffee was waiting for us at 5.30am as promised!). All in all, excellent value for money, with very friendly owners.

“A real treat”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 July 2009

Hokol Kin, was a home away from home. I left Corozal Town at an early age and going back after many years, I wanted to have a great experience; this hotel exceeded my expectations( AC, hot/cold water and great view ). The staff were friendly and helpful, the food was great, especially the johnny cakes. Thanks guys for making my vacation a great treat! Aaron and his wife are great host... if you are going to Corozal, Hokol kin is the place to stay... I am planning to go back soon.
