“Loved this place - and it's reopening soon under original owner”

Years ago in the late 1990's, before TripAdvisor existed, I stayed here and had a wonderful time - excellent local food, cozy cabanas, top notch personal service, and excursions that to this day remain some of my all-time favorite travel memories - basically much the same as other people's reviews here. I recently tried to recommend it to someone and discovered that it had changed hands and even seems to be closed now. However, I sent an e-mail and got a response from the current owner. I found out that the resort has changed hands again and reverted back to the owner who originally built it and who was there when I stayed there. The resort is closed but will reopen after renovations. So if you want to stay here, look for it to reopen sometime after November 2008 with an updated website. And I can vouch for the new owners, at least based on my experience in the past - I expect that Casa Maya will continue to be a wonderful place to stay and get a true taste of Western Belize.

“Special Christmas 2007”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2008

Our Christmas this year was really very amazing. We staid at Casa Maya Resort close to San Ignatio in Belize and it was such a memorable stay not just for us but for our kids too. This place is a more than 60 acres area full of miracles; bird watching, swimming pool, lush garden, an amzing food with sometimes more than 5 courses at dinner; great Belizean and Central American food and a warm and very special service. The cabanas are really huge and have 2 king-size beds - enough for a family of 4. We had one of the cabanas with new and big bath room. The place is very clean and one of the very special "items" at Casa Maya is that you can "hear the silence". We've never been at a place so quiet (till approximately 6am when all the birds start to sing).
It's always strange to spend the holidays far from home but Casa Maya made us feel like stay with friends and feel like home.

“The best resort during my trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 December 2007

I was in Casa Maya Resort and this was the best Resort during my trip through Mexico, Belize, Amerika and Guatemala. The rooms were very clean and staff was very friendly. Especialy Hans and Elsa. The food was very good and Hans gave me the feeling to be in a big famiely. They had a wedding which was very good organised. I can recomment this resort to everybody and want to say thank you to the team.

“Adventure experience in nice nature”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 November 2007

Casa Maya is a resort that is obviously not so very well known. We and a French couple had the resort for ourselves and there were some friends of the owners from the States which in the end made us feel like part of the family.
Big cabanas with big bath rooms and a beautiful nature surround the hotel. We booked the full meal plan for a special rate but had half of our meals outside - in the end we regretted that we did not eat more often at the hotel as they made a mixture of nice Centralamerican food and German specialities (we never had Schnitzel or red cabbage vegetable with a kind of bread-egg-balls called knoedel but it tasted delicious and obviously the people from Texas requested this stuff). Very nice house keeping stuff (Cretelle?!!) and a relaxing athmosphere for a good price.
We heard that Casa Maya was for sale - this place has real great options for the future.

“nice - friendly - eco and emotions”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2007

We staid at Casa Maya for one week last month and it was outstanding. Who could ever expect air condition - they do not sell any air condition on their website and it is ECO! Eco means to care for nature and not to waste energy. There are still people who do not understand how much we destroy our own base for living in using so much air condition and it is unhealthy anyway.

Huge cabanas with huge and new bath rooms (what about a small decoratiion in these big bath rooms - they seem empty?). Very nice service, excellent food, lot of Central American specialties and no hamburgers and sandwiches like in so many restaurants in town. Great nature, nice small pool and always locals at the bar so that we could chat with local people.
It is an excperience for our memory and to come back again!

...and there were nice other guests!
