Hi, we are just back from Belize, Central America and we discoverd a small tresor around 3 miles away from San Ignacio. The name was Casa Maya Eco Resort and we hit at that spot just by chance. There was a big sign at the street to Benque and we decided that we should have a look.
The property looks gorgeous. There are thousands of different beautiful plants, flowers, orchid (but no medecine trail as promised on the website that we visited in San Ignacio) but it is just beautiful. There were 2 other ladies in the resort and and the owner and maybe 4 or 5 other staff members and we were treated like family members. Our full meal plan was something like "all you can eat at anytime" and we were even invited for their private rides into town.
Our cabana was big and with a thached roof. I was a little concerned about animals entering the cabana at night and once I saw a bat and an iguana, but it was OK.
We booked some excusions, had a full day adventure to Tikal with a very expperienced guide and visited Xunantunich and had a kayak tour along the Makal river.
To be very honest> The most amasing thing was this incredible personal and emotional service. We never had such a vacation and we wonder if these people could offer the same service if the resort is fully booked? The owner explained to us that he would add large and beautiful new bathrooms, some family cabanas (whatever this might be) with connecting doors, a pool, some horses and some leisure facilities. We had a horse back riding too. The area is so beautiful and everything was so peaceful and so special.
I wish that some European resort owners could see this lovely place. It's a shame that they don't offer such a special service. The last day we discoverd an in resort massage by a very nice and professional lady from Ambergris Caye and we still dream of this lovely place.
The website is wonderful with a lot of information about whole Belize. It is so different to all the other websites, not just selling their own property but giving a maximum information. This resort is run with heart and soul and we wish that many people would have the opportunity to get to know it. Thanks very much, Casa Maya Resort! We love you :-)
