The mystic jungle resort is a one of a kind experience. It is located outside of San Ignacio (about 5 miles) but among several other well known and very pricey resorts. The resort is nestled among the green hills and jungle of the Cayo District. San Ignacio is very accessible from MJR but you don't have to deal with the volume of people in town or the noisiness of the streets. This place is a diamond in the rough and will continue to grow. Parts of the resort are still under construction (the restaurant) and they are working out the kinks but overall for the price you cannot beat it.

The accommodations were great as the rooms were clean and spacious. The cabanas are spread out over the property so you are not to close to your neighbor and the only noises you hear at night are the natural surroundings of the jungle. I just loved the personal chair swing located on the porch of our cabana. It was great for taking in the sunset or relaxing in the shade. The pool is refreshing and feels great after a long day of touring sites.

Before arriving at the MJR we had arranged all of our tours (Xunatunich, Tikal, Caracol, ATM, and St. Hermans Cave) through Virginia. She was very instrumental in making sure the tours were set up before we even arrived in the jungle. All of our tours guides were very knowledgable and added some personal flavor to make the tours unforgettable.

This resort is family owned (Belizean) and operated. They have only owned the resort for a year and have put their heart and souls into making it a great place to stay. I felt they appreciated our business and were very open to recommendations.

It was nice to have authentic Belizean dishes for dinner, but all the meals we had at the MJR were fresh and delightful. Margaritas hand tossed flour tortillas and home made tamales are made with love.

I look forward to staying at the MJR again and again. The experience was one of a kind and I could not have asked for more.

“Good Value for the Money”

Recently, I was on a trip to Belize and was visiting San Ignacio in the Cayo district. While looking for a place to stay, a local recommended Mystic Jungle Resort, a newly remodeled resort that I found out was formerly called Green Heaven Lodge. The new owners were very gracious and extremely hospitable. The price was reasonable compared to other resorts in the area. However, though it was obvious that the place was still undergoing the final stages of remodeling (restaurant being completed), the service was excellent. I enjoyed a few local cocktails at the bar and spent 1 afternoon enjoying the pool. The new owners are Belizean but have lived in the States for over 20 years and have just recently moved back. They were very professional and extremely accommodating. The private cabin that I stayed in was very clean, spacious, and had all the necessary ammenities. The jungle setting was very captivating. I spent 2 nights in San Ignacio and was very sad to leave. It was definately not enough to explore the many natural atractions in the area. Needless to say, I am proud to say that I made friends with the new owners /operators and promised to return as soon as possible...this time for a more extended stay!
