A delightful place, along the Mopan River, set amid beautiful tropical flowers and an abundance of bird life. The thatch roof huts are very rustic, with cement floors, but they do have electricity, hot showers and floor fans. The owner Chena is a charming person who treats guests like close family. She has wide knowledge of the local birds and medicinal plants. Her home-style cooking is wonderful, we particularly recommend the relleno negra soup which is a meal in itself and her rum soaked fruit cake is to die for! There is a rescued toucan who eats bananas guests' hands, the odd chicken or two strolls through the open air dining room and there are also ducks and geese, two dogs and a cat. The Mayan ruins at Xunantunich are nearby and worth a visit - you cross the river by hand cranked ferry. Lunch at nearby Benny's Kitchen was excellent and best of all they served ice cold draught beer - something we hadn't found elsewhere in Belize. When it was time to leave Chena helpfully drove us to the border and arranged for a reliable driver to meet us for our onward journey to Tikal. Bird watching enthusiasts and young families in particular would no doubt love this place - we don't fall into either category but loved it all the same.
