We planned our trip to Belize in a very short time frame. As much as I wanted to stay at MRF for 4 nights, they only had 2 nights available for us. Marge was incredibly helpful with answering questions about the region, getting us directions from our first place of accommodation and even helping us to make the most of our time there.
Our room was very clean, simply furnished.
The bathrooms have your typical running plumbing; the best hot shower I had was at MRF - great water pressure!!! This is key in my book.
Comfortable bed and pillows. There were 2 queen size beds in our room, nightstand, a small table, chair. The hammock on our screened in porch was very inviting. There was also a small table and chair in the screened in porch.
Bring a couple flashlights as there is no electricity and it is very dark at night. Bring your bug repellant too.
It was chilly at night for me; end of January, so I recommend bringing a couple of long sleeve shirts, pants & a hoodie/sweatshirt.
Tom makes a mean MRF rum drink - ask for one!
Marges cooking was just like home - good comfort food! We enjoyed pork tenderloin, steak, fresh bread from her clay oven, chyote - my new fav veggie, and homemade desserts. Breakfasts were large and plenty to get you on your next adventure; fresh fruit, homemade bread, eggs, pastry. Delicious!
We planned a day trip to Caracol, as MRF is about 5 mls from the entrance to the Mountain pine ridge reserve so this made sense for planning. They arranged our guide/driver to pick us up at MRF. It was an amazing day visiting the Caracol ruins, a stop off at Rio on Pools & Cave. Highly recommend it.
Our next day we drove back to the Mountain Pine Ridge reserve to check out "Big Rock". Beautiful waterfall with pools below for swimming. No one else was there. Be very careful on the trail down/up, very precarious.
Word of caution with driving up to MRF or the pine ridge; take your time enjoy the scenery. The roads are pretty bad; we rented a 4x4 from Thrifty and were happy with them.
I will definitely be recommending Moonracer Farm to anyone interested in visiting Belize. There is so much to do in the Cayo region; we barely scratched the surface. We look forward to staying at Moonracer Farm again, when we return to Belize.
Thanks Marge and Tom!!!
Room Tip: you can stay in one of 2 rooms or reserve the entire cabin for larger groups!
