“great value, clean, safe”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 August 2011

this is a great deal, for around $20 a night i was in a private room with a bathroom including a nice shower. also use of the community fridge was a huge plus, ill stay there again for sure. owner is on premises and super laid back and helpful. he also let me use the kitchen utensils and microwave which was great

Room Tip: don't get the front room right off the balcony its really loud

“The cute little old man and his wife who own the place charmed us right into staying there.”

Price: BZ$40 for a double, one bed with private bath, BZ$50 for a double, two beds with private bath
Review: This place was a lovely set of two big houses right in the center of town for a great price. The room was freshly cleaned and had good ventilation plus a ceiling fan so it cooled off pretty well. Hot water was available but seemed to run out frequently. The house had balconies on either side for relaxing plus a fridge and plates/silverware available and a small book collection. They may have had laundry facilities available, but we didn’t use them. San Ignacio is small and this hotel was on the main road so nothing was more than a 5 minute walk away. The only problem was the cockroach in the bathroom that scurried away before we could kill it. Other than that very pleasant and budget option.

“Great value, great location”

I have to say I disagree with the low rating for this hotel. Service was good, rooms were very large with a private bathroom, and even a nice balcony where you can enjoy your evening Belikin beer while reminiscing the day's adventures and looking down at the city life below. Location is great, within a 1 minute walk to just about anything in town, including local tour operators. There is a public area with a fridge to keep the aforementioned Belikin ice cold. This is a family owned business and the owners were very nice and personnable (I really liked the old dude with the thick glasses watching hockey). They also had 2 funky dogs and a parrot. For 20$ US a night for a double room, I just don't understand how you cannot be satisfied, compared to what the other places offer.

Room Tip: Choose room not facing street or balconies.

“This was a great little hotel”

We used San Ignacio as a center to go out and do some excursions. This was a perfect little hotel for that. There were plenty of restaurants within walking distance. We loved sitting out on the small deck area that wraps around the perimeter of the upper rooms. This is where everyone met at the end of the day to swap stories of their adventures. The rooms were clean and there was hot water in the early morning and in the evening. The family running the guest house where very friendly and welcoming. We were woken up a couple of mornings fairly early from barking dogs, a crowing rooster and some noisy trucks but this is no fault of the hotel. We were there during the slow season so it wasn't as noisy as it would be during the winter season but I would recommend you take ear plugs for noise. Someone recommended them in a review I read and I'm so thankful I took some. I used them on the water taxi out to Caye Caulker because the noise from the engine hurt my ears. The San Ignacio Resort is located at the top of the hill from the Hi-Et and they have a lovely pool area where you can spend the day for 5.00. It was well worth it to get some relief from the summer heat and humidity. I would recommend this guest house for anyone that is looking for an inexpensive and clean room when touring this part of Belize. Our room was 20.00 per night and I believe it's 40.00 per night in high season. I look forward to a return trip to Belize and also to the Hi-Et.

“Good advise, nice place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 March 2010

When booking a tour in San Ignacio, we were advised to stay in Hi-et, sounding like Hyatt, but definately more budget ;-). We did stay there and like it ... a lot. Cheap no frills place, nice welcoming family, good accomodation, warm water and a fan. Recommend it!!
