“Rad Rad Rad!”

This was by far one of the most fun and coolest thing I've done in Belize! If you're claustrophobic, don't like being in waist high water, and climbing rocks then you should avoid this cave. However, if you love adventure, don't mind being wet, crossing rivers, and the possibility of seeing bats/spiders, this is a must see and do event! My fiancee and I do everything from paragliding, bungee jumping, sky diving, etc etc, and this was a "Top 10 of All Time" event for us. Our guide was very patient and didn't rush us at all, we were a small group of only 4, but I did see very large groups where the guide was in the very front and wasn't waiting for the people in the back, so you may want to inquire about this when calling to make a reservation with the guide company. We loved this cave, and felt totally satisfied and happy with our experience!

“AMAZING!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

If you can you MUST go! Well worth the money and time spent. You have to sign up with a tour guide because Belize only allows licensed guides to take people into the cave. We waded through the river three times, ate lunch at the mouth of the cave, hiked in the cave through a running river, saw amazing pottery & skeletal remains, and then hiked back out. Definately a full day adventure. Wear tennis shoes and socks...they will get soaked but trust me...it is a must. There is part of the cave you have to walk around without shoes so socks are helpful. They provide you with a hard hat and head lamp. If you have a waterproof camera, bring it. I also recommend going with Pacz or Maximum tours. They are the safest, and safety is very important on this trip.

“Memories to last the rest of your life”

My wife and I and my two kids (12 and 10) made this tour with Pacz tours. We flew out of San Pedro early in the day to Belmopan where we were picked up and driven to the parking lot where the tour begins.
We were provided with a box lunch which we repackaged into our backpacks and then set out on the approx 45 minute hike to the cave mouth. As many other reviewers have stated the hike is an easy walk with no altitude changes and three creek crossings. The creeks are only about 20 feet wide and about two feet deep with slow moving water.
At the creek mouth, there is a short break for your lunch. Tour guides arrange amongst themselves a staggered order to try to keep a reasonable distance between groups.

You enter the cave with a short swim of about 20-30 feet…….a great start to the adventure that follows. One of our group could not swim at all and actually waded around the deep part of the pool with her friend treading water beside her.

I must admit, I had to chuckle reading one of the other reviews titled something like Worst Experience Ever……if you are claustrophobic, this tour is not for you.

The trek into the cave is mostly made while wading through the shallow slow moving river. I did the whole tour in flip flops. They are hard to swim in and hard to keep on while wading through water but it was all I had. The socks people talk about are also a good idea for the final part of the trek as you are made to take off whatever shoes you wore for the last little bit of the tour. The guides tell you it is to help ensure you don't damage anything. I think it is mostly to keep you from wandering around (which might indeed result in you damaging things). There are some tight spots you need to squeeze through and there are some modest climbs up and down some rocks.

This trip was fantastic. My kids loved it and I am hard pressed to think of anything else I have ever done that was more memorable.

We reversed our steps and were driven to the airport at Belmopan for our flight home. Luckily, we were flown straight to San Pedro without having to transfer in Belize City which is what our ticket said would happen.

FANTASTIC TRIP.

“Great without Carlos the Caveman”

ATM is absolutely amazing for those who enjoy an adventure. It is a once in a lifetime experience. The mayan pottery and bones are amazing, but I found the best part to be the trek into the cave. The downside: we went with this guy who called him Carlos the Caveman. Big Mistake. By far the rudest guide I've ever had. He was impatient and gruff with our group. He warned us that we'd better not get his headlamps wet or he'd be very angry. He was short and harsh with one of the women who had a knee injury. This guy left a really bad taste in my mouth, so be careful when you book your tour.

“Great! But not so easy..”

Fantastic experience definitely worth it, just need to be in fair shape,.. and have a good guide, ours from Cat-tours called Danny gave us a briefing to begin with, telling us he had better things to do, constantly wanted us to rush and told us he couldn't give a da*n if one of us broke a leg, he disappeared on the way back, leaving us wading through the high water on our own only to find him back with his mates on the parking-lot, still the trip was absolutely unique!
