“A great introduction to Belize City”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

This small, simple hotel sit right in the heart of town., just by the swing bridge over the canal. It's a perfect base for time in Belize City. The rooms are clean and comfortable, with decent hot showers, towels, a good bed and FREE Wifi. The staff are lovely and were so helpful with the hundreds of questions I had for them.

There's a small outside veranda overlooking the canal that is a great to relax a while. Food is available at the Cafe next door at a reasonable price. The only real negative for me was over loud air conditioning. Other than that this was an great place to stay.

“Good basic place to stay in a very basic place”

Belize City has little in the way of middle of the road hotels. It is a sort of "you have money or you don't" type of place. The same goes for much of the hotel offerings... there are no Motel 6 type facilities there.

Fortunately there is the Belcove Hotel which offers a reasonably priced, safe & clean place to hang your hat and rest your bones when passing through the city. It is close to the Caye Caulker and San Pedro water taxi terminals and is within a few hundred yards of the Swing Bridge. It is on the "wrong side" of Haulaway Creek, but close enough to the right side, that trouble does not enter its picture. It affords its guests glimpses of Belize City that might not be got at the high priced places. Its staff appear well versed in the ways of the city and know what "dos and don'ts" to suggest to their visitors.

Ratings wise, my 4 is relative.... In most other places this sort of place would get a 3. Here, the owners and are working with some tough variables, not the least of which is the crumbling infrastructure and rampant poverty surrounding them. We would stay here again, though now we have done the Belize City - Caye Caulker taxi dance and understand their afternoon schedule, we might not have to.

“Okay Place”

Spending any time in Belize City is not my idea of fun or paradise, but if you have to spend a night there and you are on a tight budget, this little place isn't too bad. It's conveniently located near the old swing bridge over Haulover creek and the old downtown area. Since personal safety is always a number one concern, especially in this notoriously dangerous and crime-ridden city, I only ventured out within 6 blocks of the hotel. The next day, I walked without any problems approx 8 blocks to the Novello bus center where I caught a local bus to Hopkins. The room was small, but fairly clean and met my basic needs for the night. There is an outdoor balcony on the second floor where you can relax and watch the activity on the river and nearby swing bridge. I suppose if I'm staying in Belize City again, I may consider staying there again. However, in my opinion, it's better to make your additional travel arrangements ahead of time and go straight from the airport to your final destination and totally skip Belize City.

Room Tip: If you get a room on the back side(next to the balcony) you may get a better breeze in your room.

“we loved the veranda”

Only good memories from this small budget hotel located exactly in Belize city center. Excellent customer service, clean (more than expected) , safe and a gooood budget choice. Highlight is the common veranda overlooking the river. Also a nice restaurant near by. Before going there we have looked in other hostels and BB properties in the city center and this is the best one. Please note that as far as is your choice to stay in a hotel by the river some animals (rats etc) may be expected wondering around but all hotel rooms and common areas are clean...
