“A hidden gem”

Traveling alone for the first time to Belize, the Red Hut Inn was a perfect place to stay. It sits in a secure neighborhood, accessible to a couple restaurants and the road to the City. Catching the bus was extremely easy and convenient. Julia and Lewis are warm and inviting as your hosts. They are willing to assist you in any way possible. Having been to Belize many times before with groups, I am somewhat familiar with the area. Julia recommended a trip to Lamanai, a Mayan site in Orange Walk - it was perfect. An easy day trip. Lewis' cooking is truly the best in Belize. His mango burgers are mouthwatering. The rooms are clean and spacious for one. The wifi helped me to stay in touch back home. When I returned in October with a colleague - I stayed there again! I am returning in March and will not hesitate to book my room. This is truly a hidden gem for travelers in Belize.

“Nice place to stay one or two nights”

If you are have to stay one or two nights in Belize this is a good place to stay. It is a little outside of the city center but there is not much to do there.
The owners where really friendly and emailed me before I arrived if I had any questions. Because it was sunday and there wasn't a lot of things open, the owner made me a great meal. You have a lot of tvchannels and free wireless so you can pass some time with that.
My only remark would be that it is a little expensive but everything in Belize city is like that but I don't know why, there is not much to do or see.

“Average place, be careful with a deposit”

I stayed for one night in July. It is in a very quiet part of Belize City, so not a lot to do but the owners can drive you places for a fee. The owners are nice enough, maybe overly friendly.

The bed is big and comfortable, the bathroom nice enough, with loads of tv channels if you are killing time to get to the airport.

My gripe is that they would not deduct my deposit from Hostel World from the total bill, and made me pay for laundry in $US instead of BZ as quoted on a notice in the room.

Also had a cockroach crawl across my bed in the middle of the night so I found some bug spray and got two of them.

Sorry to hear about the room had a cockroach. Due to raining season and somewhat it might have enter the room. We will look after the situation more carefully. As for the deposit, you had paid that deposit but that went to the hostel world. Then the price total at the end was with tax upon your payment for the room. As for the laundry, we had realized that we never took down the sign behind the door. Those were old prices and we had change it new now. Sorry for the inconvenience. We will improve on the situation as we go along.
Thank you!

We had a great time at the Red Hut Inn. It is not a hostel, but an in, and they will do anything to make you feel at home. We are very thankful for their hospitality and flexibility, and will certainly recommend it to friends passing through Belize City.

“A Friendly and Helpful Place to Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 July 2011

We travelled to Belize in February 2011 for a holiday. Our original intention was to stay at The Red Hut Inn for one week, but Julia and Lewis made us so welcome we decided to stay for the rest of the three weeks holiday.Actually my wife, being Belizean, stayed a further week to see more members of her family.
Lewis is an expert cook. On the first day he prepared a mouth watering omlette-based breakfast with eggs tasting better than any I have ever eaten.Although we boarded on a room-only basis, breakfast and/or an evening meal was always available on request. A chinese restaurant was was within easy walking distance if required.
Julia and other members of the staff were always willing to ferry us around to Belize City, or other places of interest, at a reasonable charge.Julia and Lewis are a lovely couple, always ready to give us good advice to get the most out of our holiday. We were also lucky to meet up with "Trisha", one of the permanent residents, who also doubles up as a tourist guide. Although British, she has an immense knowledge of Mayan history, and took us on a really informative tour of the Mayan ruins of Altan Ha.She also organised a trip to "Jaguar Park" so that our grandson could go cave-tubing, and helped out in ferrying us around the area.
The Red Hut Inn(RHI), an intimate establishment, is a bit like a small motel located in a pleasant residential district in the suburbs of Belize City. We have very happy memories of our time at the RHI, and when we return to Belize for another holiday we would be more than happy to stay there again.
