“What do you expect with a name like Bachelor Inn?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2010

I didn't want another overpriced disappointment. I'm a bachelor, so I chose Bachelor Inn and got what I paid for, which is fine. The people who run the place are decent folks. The place is near the airport, near the university, and on the north end of this rather raunchy town. Come to think of it, the whole country is rather raunchy. But that's what I like. I despise phony, overpopulated, pretentious tourist destinations (traps) like Hawaii. If you're one of those fussy tourists who wants all the luxuries in life, don't bother to go to Belize. Don't think, too, that it's all an English-speaking country because it's not. Bring your Deet if you do go; the whole of Central America's Caribbean coast is mosquito heaven. Very laid-back environment with buildings still decrepit from when I was last in Belize during 1989. Same old, same ole in Belize.

“Has a great rooftop area for private fun every night, SAFE location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 May 2010

Belize City is not the most secure city, but Bachelor Inn is located in the "University Park" area, with 3 colleges/universities within blocks of the hotel. Also has a police substation just a couple of blocks away as well. Nancy, the owner, was a great hostess and very personable, making sure that you are happy with your stay. I must admit that the hotel needs some maintenance badly, but if you're just looking for a safe place to sleep at a very reasonable price, this is the place. With taxes it was only $75 for 2 of us for 2 nights! 2 rooms and a bedroom with 2 double beds. Refrig in the living room area, tv in the bedroom. Great Rooftop area for meeting people at night time, great view during the day.

“Okay if you're not looking for service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 March 2010

As others will attest, the Bachelor Inn is not in the most central or appealing area of Belize. There is not a lot available within walking distance and as we arrived on a Sunday a lot of businesses were closed. Nancy was a pleasant and helpful host and the room was neat and clean but...the sheets were clean but did not fit the bed. Looked like a twin sheet on a double. There was heavy rain which ran in under the door, but we did have a mop to clean up with. The power went out twice (most of the city was affected) so Nancy drove us to find some takeout food. The rooftop area has deteriorated - there are some seats and a great view but it is not deluxe by any means. A decent nights sleep is possible if the local dogs (every house seems to have 1 or more) barking doesn't wake you up.

If you are looking for an inexpensive base to work from for day trips and activities it okay. If you're looking for a destination with nearby activities it might be lacking.

“Owner is lovely, inn is OK, location is scary.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 August 2009

Nancy is wonderful person, helpful and fun. The room is sparse, but comfortable. Air cond is good. English cable. First I'd seen in 3 weeks. The lock is a padlock on the outside and 3 sliding bolts on the inside. The location is crappy and scary. However, if you want a cheap place to stay because your connecting flight is out of Belize City, it's fine. A taxi ride to Belize City Int'l Airport is $6 bz.

“Wouldn't have stayed anywhere else!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 May 2009

To sum this hostel up in only one word would be to call it friendly. It feels safe, despite the location, and it has a wonderful roof with relaxing features. It is amazing. Even if you chose to opt for a cheaper room, it is still worth it. There were no insects in their very clean rooms. If you seek perhaps the kindest and cheapest place to stay in Belize, then choose the bachelor inn. I highly recommend it.
