“Just not a good hotel.”

It looks quite good, but it just isn`t. The rooms are quite nice and big, but the cleaning are not very good. The main problem is this hotel is the service or should I say, the lack of service. People are normally very friendly in Central America, but they have for sure not heard about that in this hotel. My recommandation, keep away and find another hotel.

“could be a great place....”

we have stayed in many places all over belize and find the people here are normally very freindly and welcoming... Not the case at the princess hotel and casino. It looks like a good place to stay and have fun at the casino, but the staff in both the casino and front desk are very unfriendly. We felt like they were doing us a favor by taking the time to talk to us. I assume the management promotes this because they seemed to all have the same attitude, with the exception of the bellman, who was very friendly. There was live music in the casino, very loud until about 11 pm, then at midnight a concert started in the park across the street and went until almost daylight! We do NOT recommend this hotel!

“Honest review!”

We spent 1 night at the Pincess Hotel we were catching a boat at the marina in the morning and this was the closest place. We arrived January 6th, 2012. We arranged transportation ahead of time with Paul at Discount Belize shuttles and transfers. He was at the airport when we arrived and took us directly to the hotel.
When we arrived at the hotel, the porter met us at the car and carried our bags into the lobby. We were greeted by 2 friendly women who checked us in. We asked for a remote for the t.v. knowing there was not one in the room. Te hotel lobby is clean and well kept. The gift shop is small but reasonably priced. There is a small lounge in the back of the lobby that is a nice area overlooking the marina.
We went to our room. We were on the 6th floor. The room was clean, the furnishings were dated maybe from the late 70's to 80's. The bathroom had plenty of hot running water no washcloth we had to ask for one. Towels were white and fluffy. Yes, the door to the room seemed a bit flimsy, not your average American metal door between you and the outside world. All corridors are outside with 2 elevators.
We had dinner at Claypso Fish Market which is onsite. Nope, they did not have everything on the menu available to order. However, keep in mind it is a FRESH FISH MARKET. If you want to choose from the full menu, I suggest you dine early. We ate at 7:00pm. and the whole red snapper dinner was sold out. The food was amazing. Fresh shrimp civeche was out of this world. After dinner we went to the casino, and played a while. Lots of slots, pays in American money, takes a very long time to collect your winnings.
Breakfast was the hotel buffet. They had juice, coffee, tea. Fresh fruit, cheeses, meats, eggs made to order. Johnny cakes, beans. they had a breakfast dish they called sausage. It was Vienna sausage they look like hotdogs, with onion, green pepper and potatoes. They have pastries, and cakes as well. There is a small coffee shop in the lobby that serves fresh baked goods starting at about 9:30.
The pool area was spotless, the theater was clean and playing current movies. The gym is a small room with a indoor outdoor rug but the machines are new as are the free weights. The arcade and bowling alley were dark when we walked in and they immediatly asked if we would like to bowl.
Yes, the hotel is old, and if you sit there and look around you can see that it needs a touch of TLC.
I was not at all looking forward to staying here since I had read all the reviews. I threw caution to the wind and made the reservation. I will stay here again as it has everything I need to spend a relaxing day after a long flight.
If you go in with the attituted that this is NOT the Ritz Carlton or even the Embassy Suites, you will be fine. If you don't have that attitude, I would suggest staying elsewhere.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms aboe the 3rd floor. Much better view of the marina.

“Much Improved”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

Stayed here 3 years ago, and had lots to complain about. Mostly to do with the service at the hotel bar to be fair. Anyway we thought we would come back again as the hotel is well located with big rooms, with a great view of the sea. Obviously all these things are still there. We took a regular suite for $125, which is only $5 more than a regular room. You just get a bit more space which I think is worth the money. The bed was a super king and was really comfortable.
Only problem with the room was we didn't have a tv control. We asked at reception and eventually this issue was sorted, in a much better manner than I have experienced here before.
The bar staff have changed since we were last here and the lady was polite and attentive. It seems the Princess are trying to improve the service of their staff and at last are starting to realise how important this is.
Breakfast was included within the price. It was a good spread with eggs cooked to order and lots of different options.
All in all the place has improved a lot. If you haven't been here before and you are staying in Belize City with your family then this is a good option, as there is a large pool, bowling alley, cinema, gym and casino. I am giving it 4 stars purely because it is better than a lot of options in the City. Let me make it clear that it is not a 4star hotel, but it could be.

Room Tip: Book a Regular Suite which is only $5 more than a normal room.

“It's like left to the roaches”

I don't like giving average or bad reviews, but I can't help with this one. Me and my husband spent 3 nights there, and we have problems. First of, they took 2 days to fix the hot water that wasn't running in our bedroom. They gave us two remote controls for the tv that didn't work, they charge an absurd amount of money for internet and the casino stinks a lot. The bowling area was dirty, also the little souvenirs store was WAY too expensive, if not the most expensive one I've been. We wouldn't mind to pay what we paid to stay there if the quality was better.
