We spent 1 night at the Pincess Hotel we were catching a boat at the marina in the morning and this was the closest place. We arrived January 6th, 2012. We arranged transportation ahead of time with Paul at Discount Belize shuttles and transfers. He was at the airport when we arrived and took us directly to the hotel.
When we arrived at the hotel, the porter met us at the car and carried our bags into the lobby. We were greeted by 2 friendly women who checked us in. We asked for a remote for the t.v. knowing there was not one in the room. Te hotel lobby is clean and well kept. The gift shop is small but reasonably priced. There is a small lounge in the back of the lobby that is a nice area overlooking the marina.
We went to our room. We were on the 6th floor. The room was clean, the furnishings were dated maybe from the late 70's to 80's. The bathroom had plenty of hot running water no washcloth we had to ask for one. Towels were white and fluffy. Yes, the door to the room seemed a bit flimsy, not your average American metal door between you and the outside world. All corridors are outside with 2 elevators.
We had dinner at Claypso Fish Market which is onsite. Nope, they did not have everything on the menu available to order. However, keep in mind it is a FRESH FISH MARKET. If you want to choose from the full menu, I suggest you dine early. We ate at 7:00pm. and the whole red snapper dinner was sold out. The food was amazing. Fresh shrimp civeche was out of this world. After dinner we went to the casino, and played a while. Lots of slots, pays in American money, takes a very long time to collect your winnings.
Breakfast was the hotel buffet. They had juice, coffee, tea. Fresh fruit, cheeses, meats, eggs made to order. Johnny cakes, beans. they had a breakfast dish they called sausage. It was Vienna sausage they look like hotdogs, with onion, green pepper and potatoes. They have pastries, and cakes as well. There is a small coffee shop in the lobby that serves fresh baked goods starting at about 9:30.
The pool area was spotless, the theater was clean and playing current movies. The gym is a small room with a indoor outdoor rug but the machines are new as are the free weights. The arcade and bowling alley were dark when we walked in and they immediatly asked if we would like to bowl.
Yes, the hotel is old, and if you sit there and look around you can see that it needs a touch of TLC.
I was not at all looking forward to staying here since I had read all the reviews. I threw caution to the wind and made the reservation. I will stay here again as it has everything I need to spend a relaxing day after a long flight.
If you go in with the attituted that this is NOT the Ritz Carlton or even the Embassy Suites, you will be fine. If you don't have that attitude, I would suggest staying elsewhere.
Room Tip: Ask for rooms aboe the 3rd floor. Much better view of the marina.
