When we first arrived at Shirley's Guest House and saw the room, my friend and I were impressed with how quiet it was, the cleanliness of the rooms was acceptable, and we were so weary from checking out room after room that we decided it would be a relief to just pay and set down our bags so we could explore the island. But after getting settled in our rooms, we noticed at least 7 different signs posted throughout the cabin informing us to do this and not to do that. My favorite was the one where she instructed us to 'wet down, turn off the (shower) water, lather up, and turn the water back on to rinse'. Not exactly the relaxed vibe I was hoping for. I feel badly dissing her place because Shirley seemed like a nice woman, but honestly it did feel a bit restrictive. What her place needs is a makeover. Anyone out there producing a tropical guest cabin makeover show???? The positives include a quiet environment, a clean room, and close to the airport (walking distance). The negatives: No swimming access, total gated atmosphere, not a fun, lively crowd, no interatcion with other guests, too many rules, slightly outdated look and feel of rooms/bathrooms, far from town, long bikeride (full of potholes) to/from town.
