“Loved it so much we're going back!”

We stayed in a first floor oceanfront room which was so big we could have fit 4 people easily. Our room was literally 30 steps from the ocean (I counted!). The beach was beautiful and quiet. The area around the pier was cleared of seagrass so you could actually swim right off the beach here (which was not the case at most of the other resorts we saw). We never had a problem finding beach chairs to settle into, as the beach wasn't too crowded. The restaurant at the resort was pretty good (especially the banana pancakes for breakfast-yum!) And they will bring your meals to you at the beach bar, on your deck, wherever! My husband even arranged with the restaurant to have a private dinner on the pier for my birthday .Also there is a beach barbecue once or twice a week which was fantastic! This is a family friendly resort but not too loud for a romantic getaway either. We were there for easter and they had lots of activities going on for the kids (easter egg hunts, kayak races etc...)
This resort is pretty far north on the caye, so it is very quiet compared to those closer to San Pedro (which is perfect for us). You have to take a water taxi into San Pedro, which you'll want to do to try some of the restaurants and night life. The resort has a few scheduled runs every day, but the island water taxi also comes every hour for a small fee. You can get a week long pass in town which saves money. We ate at Elvi's kitchen and the blue water grille which were both excellent.
We did the Sharkray alley snorkeling trip twice through Suya tours at the resort. This is a can't miss activity. The most diverse ocean life we have ever seen on a snorkeling trip (nurse sharks, sting rays, spotted eagle rays, sea turtles, and moray eels) all up close and personal! The second trip no one else signed up, so we had our own personal tour and our guide even brought us to an extra spot! You can also kayak right from the legacy beach out to the reef (15 minutes), and snorkel on your own. There are bouys to tie the kayak to. Overall, one of the best trips we have ever been on and we can't wait to go back.

“Wonderful getaway”

We LOVED our stay at the Belize Legacy Beach Resort. I think all the rooms on the property have a beautiful view, but we felt we were especially blessed with a room on the second story overlooking the pool and the ocean. The room was lovely and spacious and the bed was very comfortable.

We ate two dinners at the resort restaurant and really enjoyed both of them. I heard that lunch was the best meal of the day there but unfortunately we never tried the lunch or breakfast. We had pre-ordered some groceries online from Matagrande Groceries and highly recommend this service! It was really nice to have food in our room when we arrived.

We scheduled a snorkeling trip through the resort. They were very accommodating, however since I am pretty price-conscious I wish I would have brought my own snorkel. Jody was our guide and he was really great about pointing out all the different species of fish and sea life. I also loved the fresh cut pineapple we ate mid trip! However I didn't reapply sunscreen often enough--please do this every time you get back in the boat!!

The water in the room was pretty salty, but I'm assuming it's this way all over the island. It was really nice the resort provided a complementary gallon of drinking water (we also ordered a gallon from MataGrande). The staff at the hotel was really nice. They had a fairly extensive DVD library which was nice since the Direct TV did go out occasionally.

My only complaint is that the furniture on the beautiful porch was cheap plastic chairs, which seemed out of place considering the nice furniture in the room. I was really hoping for a hammock.

There were always enough chairs/umbrellas on the beach even though we were there over a holiday weekend and I'm assuming was nearly booked. The pool also never felt crowded. I really enjoyed drinking my pina colada on the beach while enjoying the view of the sea!

While the Katanga Beach bar provided evening entertainment (and delicious rum punches!), those looking for nightlife will probably want to take the water taxi down the coast to San Pedro. We enjoyed the fact that it was away from the crowd.

If you're looking for a quiet, relaxing getaway with the option for adventure this is hard to beat!

We have seen a lot of the tropical destinations in the world and Belize Legacy Resort was number 1 on our list. I can't even put into words how beautiful the beach, water, resort, experience was for us. We are celebrating our 20th anniversary in 2012 and are already telling our friends and family to plan on joining us in Belize to renew our vows!!!

“Beautiful location on the beach”

We went there for 4 days and loved it. We stayed in a great villa that was right on the beach and afforded gorgeous views of the ocean from our front porch from which we could step direclty onto the beach.

Staff was fabulous!!! The airline lost our luggage on the way down. After having to take a taxi and two boats to reach the resort from the airport, I was convinced that I would spend the better part of my first full day traveling back to the airport to try to locate it and not optimistic of ever finding it. But lo and behold, at dinner the first evening, while I was in the restaurant at the resort, one of the staff members came and found me to tell me that they had not only tracked down for me one of my two pieces of luggage but had retrieved it and actually had it with him. I started to get up from the dinner table to take it to my room but he instead took my room key and delivered it for me. The very next day they located our other piece of luggage and went into town and retrieved it for us and delivered it to our villa. This is above and beyond what I could have ever expected and for me, redefines "customer service".

The restaurant at the resort was not super fancy but had good basic fare, including seafood. Also, you can walk down the beach to other resorts and check out their restaurants, which we did several times. One of them had the best seafood tacos we had ever tasted and was only about 10 -15 minutes walk from Legacy Beach.

To go into "town" you do need to take a boat or water taxi, which requires a small amount of planning. But if you want to stay right on a beautiful beach this is a great place!

“Best Vacation ever!”

My husband and I and 5 other adult family members spent one week at the Belize Legacy this July. It was great. We booked 3 oceanfront rooms which were clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. The views were spectacular and the white sand beaches were gorgeous! The water was warm and clear and we were impressed with the decent snorkling right from the beach. Suya Tours on site was great at arranging any trips you wanted at decent prices. The free shuttle into town was convenient and the drivers accommodating. This is a quiet relaxing place- perfect for spending quality time with friends or family. I saw others who said they got a free drink on arrival and a free gallon of water in the rooms. We didn't get either so it must depend on how things are going that day. There were free bikes and kayaks and paddleboats. All very nice to have at hand though we didn't use them some of our kids (adults) did. As others have commented the water in the kitchens and baths was salty and unappealing - I don't know if it was unhealthy but it was icky enough that I didn't even use it to brush teeth after the first day. I wouldn't cook with it either - would definitely affect food flavor!

I have only 2 criticisms of the Legacy. If it's going to be a top notch destination, it should pick you up at the airport and transport you to the facility free of charge. They say at booking that the shuttle boat will take you to the resort free. That is technically true but you have to get from the airport to the dock with your luggage- a distance of a mile or two. The resort will arrange a Taxi at $25 per person- there were 7 of us! This can add up quickly and is totally unjustified by the distance and the fact that at least 4 people go in one taxi. The other thing is that due to the water situation- when you are paying over $200 or $300 dollars a night I think a gallon of water a day should be provided to each room.

All in all we loved this vacation and we were not sorry we booked the Legacy. It provided our best vacation ever. We will return if they provide transportation from the airport to the property as part of the package!
Do not underestimate the value of being able to just walk out and snorkle from the beach- I think many properties are too weedy to do this. Ask if you like to snorkle!
