“Went Belly Up!”

Was down here last January 2010, and a few of the locals nearby said it had been closed about a year. Had dinner there about 4 or 5 years ago, and the place WAS very nice looking., although there was only 1 other couple at the restaurant, and saw no quests milling around. They did have the best bar, right on the water.

“Heaven on Earth”

This review is long over due. I visited Belize Legacy Resort in 2008. It was like Heaven on Earth. I'm not sure if it was just the island or the hotel- I guess a combo of both. The ocean is absolutely gorgeous. This hotel was towards the end of the island so it was a little more secluded.
I'm so very dissappointed it is no longer open.
They offered free kayaks, bikes, lounges, movies. The bar was great and quite on the water wher eyou could fish. The employees were awesome! Seriously, all of them. If you needed anything - they were there. We even fished on the pier with them.
This may have been my favorite vacation ever. When we left they told us they were expanding - I'm so sad to hear they didn't as my daughter and I really wanted to go back!!

“in disrepair”

this place is no longer open for business. We walked by it and the beach bar is sagging into the water. It looks like it was a nice place at one time but it now appears to be abandoned.

“Loved it so much we're going back!”

We stayed in a first floor oceanfront room which was so big we could have fit 4 people easily. Our room was literally 30 steps from the ocean (I counted!). The beach was beautiful and quiet. The area around the pier was cleared of seagrass so you could actually swim right off the beach here (which was not the case at most of the other resorts we saw). We never had a problem finding beach chairs to settle into, as the beach wasn't too crowded. The restaurant at the resort was pretty good (especially the banana pancakes for breakfast-yum!) And they will bring your meals to you at the beach bar, on your deck, wherever! My husband even arranged with the restaurant to have a private dinner on the pier for my birthday .Also there is a beach barbecue once or twice a week which was fantastic! This is a family friendly resort but not too loud for a romantic getaway either. We were there for easter and they had lots of activities going on for the kids (easter egg hunts, kayak races etc...)
This resort is pretty far north on the caye, so it is very quiet compared to those closer to San Pedro (which is perfect for us). You have to take a water taxi into San Pedro, which you'll want to do to try some of the restaurants and night life. The resort has a few scheduled runs every day, but the island water taxi also comes every hour for a small fee. You can get a week long pass in town which saves money. We ate at Elvi's kitchen and the blue water grille which were both excellent.
We did the Sharkray alley snorkeling trip twice through Suya tours at the resort. This is a can't miss activity. The most diverse ocean life we have ever seen on a snorkeling trip (nurse sharks, sting rays, spotted eagle rays, sea turtles, and moray eels) all up close and personal! The second trip no one else signed up, so we had our own personal tour and our guide even brought us to an extra spot! You can also kayak right from the legacy beach out to the reef (15 minutes), and snorkel on your own. There are bouys to tie the kayak to. Overall, one of the best trips we have ever been on and we can't wait to go back.

“Wonderful getaway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2009

We LOVED our stay at the Belize Legacy Beach Resort. I think all the rooms on the property have a beautiful view, but we felt we were especially blessed with a room on the second story overlooking the pool and the ocean. The room was lovely and spacious and the bed was very comfortable.

We ate two dinners at the resort restaurant and really enjoyed both of them. I heard that lunch was the best meal of the day there but unfortunately we never tried the lunch or breakfast. We had pre-ordered some groceries online from Matagrande Groceries and highly recommend this service! It was really nice to have food in our room when we arrived.

We scheduled a snorkeling trip through the resort. They were very accommodating, however since I am pretty price-conscious I wish I would have brought my own snorkel. Jody was our guide and he was really great about pointing out all the different species of fish and sea life. I also loved the fresh cut pineapple we ate mid trip! However I didn't reapply sunscreen often enough--please do this every time you get back in the boat!!

The water in the room was pretty salty, but I'm assuming it's this way all over the island. It was really nice the resort provided a complementary gallon of drinking water (we also ordered a gallon from MataGrande). The staff at the hotel was really nice. They had a fairly extensive DVD library which was nice since the Direct TV did go out occasionally.

My only complaint is that the furniture on the beautiful porch was cheap plastic chairs, which seemed out of place considering the nice furniture in the room. I was really hoping for a hammock.

There were always enough chairs/umbrellas on the beach even though we were there over a holiday weekend and I'm assuming was nearly booked. The pool also never felt crowded. I really enjoyed drinking my pina colada on the beach while enjoying the view of the sea!

While the Katanga Beach bar provided evening entertainment (and delicious rum punches!), those looking for nightlife will probably want to take the water taxi down the coast to San Pedro. We enjoyed the fact that it was away from the crowd.

If you're looking for a quiet, relaxing getaway with the option for adventure this is hard to beat!
