Although we did not stay at the Tides, we spent many hours there at the bar with Butch, and even more time out diving with Patojo's scuba operation. We were newly certified scuba divers and this was our first oceanic dives. We told Patojo this when we were fitting up our gear, and he sat us all down and talked to us, telling us what we were going to do, for how long and addressing any concerns we new divers had. My wife was extremely nervous before the first dive, but then quickly became comfortable with Patojo and his crew. We budgeted for 2-2 tank dives. At the end of our trip, both my wife and I agreed that when we come back to San Pedro, we won't dive with anyone else.

On days when we weren't diving, we were sipping drinks at the beach bar with Butch. Let me tell you...you can lose days just sitting here at the bar, talking with Butch and feeling the cool breeze on your face while drinking cold Belikins. We loved Butch and sincerely hope we all get to come back and enjoy more time there at the bar with him.

I arrived in San Pedro without a single reservation. The other travelers in the shared taxi from the airport were staying at Tides and while dropping them off I decide the hotel looked great and checked to see if they had an available room. Thankfully they did. Kim was an angel. Since I hadn't had a reservation it was going to be a little bit before I could get into my room since it needed to be cleaned. Thankfully I was able to keep my luggage in the room of those that I shared the taxi with. Kim was wonderful and moved the luggage to my room after she cleaned it and put fresh out of the dryer linens on the bed, I can confirm they were because they were warm to touch as she was making the bed. Anything I needed Kim was able to help arrange. The rooms are very large and spacious with seating on the balcony over looking the pool and beach. Those in the corner room did experience some noise since the hotel is situated next to a school. However, I was one room in from the corner and didn't hear much. Butch is a great bartender and is very helpful and seems to be a local staple. I would recommend The Tides to anyone traveling to San Pedro and will stay here again on my next stay.

Love the location of Tides. Diving is the best. Patojo knows the ocean like not many others. Kim & Butch are great. Downside; watch your money / credit card. I really lost total trust in what seemed to be a great family run hotel. I was charged an erroneous $ 2,500, claimed to be an accident, but after the whole fiasco, I don't believe it!!! It took over 2.5 months to get the money back, after mentioning bad feedback on the web. Sabrina lied to several times. This is NOT what I expected after having nice chats with her. Nice place, BUT, BE AWARE!!!! This really is the first time I have written a negative review. I am still waiting for some money, 3.5 months later. Not all money was refunded. I was lied to again.

We stayed at The Tides Resort for a week Feb 19-26. This was our first trip to San Pedro, and could not have picked a better place. Our room was the "Fisherman. It had everything we needed, large king size bed, decent size frig, ceiling fans, cable TV, AC with remote. Kim did a great job with daily housekeeping, room was always cleaned spotless, towels replaced everyday. All the rooms have a great oceanview.

Patajos dive shop is a great op. Very well organized, and all the guys go out of their way to make sure you trip is awesome. Nice boats, and they take care of all your gear after the dives.

The little bar at the hotel is great. Butch is a outstanding bartender, and also has lots of knowledge of the island. Anything you need to know, Butch can help. We rented a golfcart for the week, but you can be in downtown in about a 8-10 min beachwalk. The hotel is next to the highschool, but it was never a problem.

I will be returning to The Tides. It is not a 5 star luxury hotel, but it does not have a luxury rate. It is a very comfortable hotel, and you soon feel like family after a short time. San Pedro is a no frills island, so if you are spoiled to mega all inclusives, this may not be the place for you. But if you have the "No shirt, no shoes, no problem" attitude, you will have a very enjoyable vacation and will be planning your next trip as soon as you return.
