“Great People”

My husband and I were in Belize January 20th - January 28th. celebrating our honeymoon and my 50th birthday.Had a fabulous time.We were out beach roaming looking for the perfect place to watch the Patriots and Ravens play off game.We found Corona del Mar Hotel & Apartment What a great surprise. They had a huge bar next to the beach with 3 tv's so we decided this was our place to watch the game. Best decision we made.We had an awesome time. They have the friendliest staff.Jasmine and Marge are the best barentenders.Jassmine saved seats for us that we had picked the night before. We came the day of the game and she had reserved on the seats. We thought that was pretty neat. The poor girl knew nothing about football but what a sport. We had her wearing Patriot tattoos on her face and cheering the Patriots on.Could not have asked for a better birthday present than the Patriots going to the superbowl. We met other staff members of hotel too.Carla, Frank and his wife and Leroy. All wonderful friendly people that made us visit Corona del Mar almost everday. Frank played several games of horseshoes with my husband and yes , Frank is as good as they say he is, even his wife played my husband and she is good too. They have karaoke every friday night 6pm-9pm although went to ten the night we were there. So much fun.The last song of the night my husband got up to sing with Leroy. No one had ever done this song but now it should be a tradition for Leroy to carry on singing "Strokin " it was hilarious. These people are great people and go out of their way for you and we were not even staying at their hotel.Looking forward to going back next year and seeing them again.Jasmine even took us out on a friday night to show us the nightlife. Before we left we stopped in to say our goodbyes , Leroy had made up superbowl squares and we were the first to get 7 squares, something to look forward to. GO Patriots. Thanks to all the new friends we made at Corona del Mar. We will be back. Only rated the service from the bar perspective which was excellant and the location, a ten minute walk along the beach into town.

“A nice slice of paradise”

When booking our room, the only negatives we could find about Corona del Mar is that they didn't have a pool. Well, color us surprised, because when we checked it we found out that they DO have a pool! Actually it turns out that they had recently acquired the Coconuts hotel that was next door.

We were in the 'penthouse' room - the view was fantastic from the room and the balcony was so much better. The room we were in was part of the Coconuts building. The bathroom was fine, the room was clean and comfortable and the staff was warm and friendly.

I posted a video to YouTube of our room, so if you search for it you should be able to find it.

It is a bit of a walk to get into town, but that didn't bother us much at all.

“Great location, simple rooms, comfortable stay”

We just returned from a long weekend in San Pedro. We booked an apartment at Corona Del Mar. The rooms are a little dated, as others have mentioned, but they are adequate. The appliances and bathroom fixtures were all brand new and extremely clean.

The customer service is wonderful. The bartender, Marge, is friendly and fun to talk to. She mixes up an amazing banana rum drink that is very refreshing! We were lucky enough to get in a round of horseshoes with the famous Frank, the head maintenance guy. His wife, Mel, is head of the housekeeping department and both of them treat you like you've been friends forever!

The hotel provides a free breakfast of fresh fruit, toast, peanut butter, jelly, juice and coffee. If you're in the mood for a bigger breakfast, walk across the street to George's kitchen for eggs and bacon. Its delicious! The free WiFi and rum punch are also great perks of this hotel.

We loved the location of Corona Del Mar. It is right next to Crazy Canuck's bar and a short walk into San Pedro Town. You can relax on the hammocks at the hotel without interruption then take a short stroll into town when you are ready for some action.

“Quaint place/Good Value”

We stayed on Ambergis Caye for 4 days. Had booked at the last minute, and were able to get a room at the Corona Del Mar for a reasonable rate during the peak season (X-mas to New Year's week). The hotel is outdated, but room are clean and have everything you need. Beds are comfortable. There is a coffee maker, microwave, and fridge in each room as well. Also TV and Cable with all English channels. Free internet on the computers in the lobby. (No wi-fi in room). Located on the beach, with nice lounge chairs and hammocks, and covered cabana areas. Frank, Mel and all the staff are beyond nice, friendly, and helpful. They really go out of their way to make sure you are comfortable during your stay. The hotel is located about a 15 minute walk to the main part of town (you can walk on the beach or on a sidewalk) -OR- a 3-5 minute taxi ride. There are also some decent local restaurants right outside the hotel. They offer a complimentary basic breakfast of toast/PB +J/butter/jam, and coffee and fruit. There are definitely newer, more luxurious places to stay on Ambergis, but they will cost a lot more. This is defintely worth the value, especially based on location, amenities, and staff. They have recently acquired the hotel next door and are expanding. The rooms at the next door place are currently more outdated (but still clean), so if you can, try to get a room on the original Corona del Mar side. If you are looking to stay at a fancy 4-5 star resort, where you just stay/eat at the resort only, then this place is not for you. But all others will be happy with the stay and value.

Do a day and/or night Snorkel at Hol Chan and Shark Ray Alley...so Beautiful!!
Eat Salvadorean Papusas at Warugamas- Yummy and Cheap!

Room Tip: Ask for an ocean facing room if possible. And ask for a room on the original Corona Del Mar side of...

“Very Dated Rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 September 2011

We decided to do a last minute NYE trip to Belize. Prices were really high so we decided to book Corona Del Mar because they didn't jack their prices up exorbitantly for NYE. We originally booked a sunset room, which we found really dated and very motel six like. I talked to the reception and told them the room will not do and surprisingly they moved us to a small apartment near the street side of the hotel. The apartment was new and quite palatial compared to our original room but it was nothing spectacular. Although, it was roomy and there was a stove and refrigerator. I gave this hotel a three due to the initial experience which is more like a one but management's gesture brought the property up to a three.

We also stayed in Caye Caulker which we enjoyed more than Ambergris Caye. We found Ambergris too be noisy and congested with golf carts. If you're looking for the island life go to Caulker.

Room Tip: Do not get a Sunset Room!
