I traveled with three friends for a 5 night holiday at Ramon's Village and it was amazing. This was my first trip to Belize and while we struggled with Delta's mechanical problems all day to get there and when we finally did, it was totally worth it! Our friends were already there and picked us up at the airport and had cool drinks waiting for us at a table overlooking the gorgeous water! When our luggage arrived the next day, Ramon's staff simply picked it up and delivered it to our room! The service was incredible and so appreciated.
Our rooms were 56 & 57 with a terrific beachfront view balcony. The room was simple, yet had everything we needed - included a mini-fridge and coffee maker. No TV was not a problem for me, because I didn't want to stay inside on a vacation like this. The shower had plenty of hot water for us at various times throughout the day and housekeeping was wonderful! Wifi was nonexistent in our room, but I did have some connectivity on the balcony. Wifi was great in the restaurant and bar, which is probably for the best because it kept me from being 'connected' all the time. You can hear the upstairs neighbors if they walking hard or running up the stairs, but it didn't bother really us.
We ate almost every meal at Pineapples and the service is fabulous! And the food was pretty good too! I think we tried almost everything on the menu between the four of us and it was usually spot on! We enjoyed talking with the staff and Mark, Roberto, Ron, Jack(Jack-lious), Vidal, Oscar and Joel made us feel right at home! We went on a half-day fishing trip and the restaurant cooked our catches for dinner - and it was absolutely delicious!
Our fishing excursion was booked through Ramon's and our guide Ernest was super fun and knew some great places for fishing. We caught more than enough fish for our dinner that night! We also took a half-day trip on the Reef Seeker Glass Bottom boat with snorkeling to Hol Chan and Shark Ray Alley and we saw an eagle spotted ray, lobster, crab, grouper, turtles, so much beautiful coral, sharks and I don't even know how many different kinds of fish. Ramon's also booked this excursion for us and our guide Mitch Valdez (with his darling 7 year old granddaughter Anna Louisa, who swims like a mermaid) was amazing. He led us all around the reef and was just a terrific host.
We took a golf cart to town and north to Palapa Bar one morning. We got somewhat turned around on the one way streets but we got the hang of it pretty quickly. Another day we went south to look for the Marco Gonzalez Mayan Site - we didn't find it, but it had rained the day before and the roads were pretty rough and we decided to turn around when we were about 5 miles out of town. But we found a bakery and a wine store while we were out and about!
The weather was really pretty good for this time of the year. I had expected it to be really hot, but we were on the windward side of the island and most of the days were pretty overcast, which made it much cooler and didn't slow us down at all. It rained one day and we stayed in and played cards in the bar and the staff was so accommodating! We spent a few afternoons on the beach and the wonderful Ron took care of us out there - making sure we had everything we needed!
It was a great holiday and I miss it already! I tried to replicate the tropical waffles for breakfast today, and my eggo with pineapple jelly just wasn't the same! I hope to return again soon!
Thanks to everyone at Ramon's Village for making this such a wonderful holiday!
