“Quite Stay at Belize Yacht Club”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

We spent the end of January and beginning of February at the BYC. The resort was very quiet which was good for us as we are out early each morning for activities. We had a one bedroom, upstairs, in a duplex style building. Had neighbors downstairs but don't think we had anyone next door as we never saw or heard them. The resort does have several fulltime residents so I can only assume that some owners release their holding to the property management for use by timeshare companies.

I contacted the BYC by both email and telephone before arrival to confirm our reservations which were booked through Interval International. Though my confirmation through II stated that airport transportation was provided we found out it was not. Cost from the airport to the resort for the taxi was only $5 USD, and 5 minutes away so that was bearable.

Check-in was pretty easy, we filled out a view forms and someone came to get our luggage. The room had a kitchenette with frig, stove and sink; however their were no dishes, silverware, pots/pans provided. The office gave us a form to fill out of what we would like for our stay in this regard, a couple hours after turning it in to the office the items were brought to our room. Make sure you request a coffee maker if you need your morning jolt of caffine.

Like others have said, the accommodations are showing fair wear and tear, similar to your average 3 star hotel outside the major cities of Europe. It wouldn't take much to fix up the interiors but I don't know if that is the owner or management company's responsibility. We did have maid service everyday, they swept the floors and brought clean towels. I can't remember if they ever changed the linen on the bed.

When we checked in we didn't receive any information about the BYC, nor was there any literature in the room. We knew they had a pool and a private dock, but didn't know it they had a restaurant or bar on the premises. We had walked by a small cooking area with bar stools but didn't see anyone there until later in the week. There looked to be a pool bar but then again we never saw anyone there either.

The private dock came in very handy for us as both the dive company we used and the company that we booked an excursion to the mainland picked us up on the dock.

I wouldn't make the BYC my choice to stay if I wanted luxury accomodations and good service, but if you want a nice quiet place to sleep at night and they give you a reasonable quote you will find the BYC okay for a week's stay.

The best thing we found was the use of the dock for our transportation and that we were only a 15 minute walk to the heart of San Pedro. In that respect the location of BYC provided us with easy access to everything we needed.

Room Tip: All the rooms have an ocean view. We stayed in 28B which fronted the seawalk and beach and was a ve...

“Horrible experience, irresponsible, not trustworthy and unprofessional!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

Belize Yacht Club is not the place to stay on the island of San Pedro!!! It's not safe, as rooms Are always being burglarized and guest' personal items are being stolen! Also, it's not trustworthy because their staff facilitates burglaries within the hotel. Further more, they are irresponsible and unprofessional due to lock of insurance for guest and their belongings and absolutely no kind of compensation for guest's lost and damages within the hotel!!!
I am from Belize and I occasionally visiting the island! What BYC did on my last stay totally discouraged me from visiting the island and I will not staying there again!
I checked in the hotel on the 27th of December 2011, and since then, I closed all my windows and screens to avoid any accessibility to my room from unauthorized personals. On 30th of December, my window screens were open and even one of my window in the room was open but I didn't realize it until what had happen to me between 6:45 pm to 7:15 pm. While I was swimming in the pool with my friends, just couple feet away from my room, where it was burglarized and the thief didn't search the room any at all, just went to the bed drawer and took a pair of expensive headphone, and my phone and watch which were on my bed. At that same time, I had 4000 in cash in a pants on the bed next to the phone and watch and they didn't took it, this means that the burglar knew what he was looking for and no burglar will go into a room with all lights on and take any items without searching unless they were informed what was in there!
But anyway, I reported to the hotel and they refuse to take any responsibility or neither did they show any interest in compensating me. Even worse, the owner of the hotel said, " Absolutely NO HOTEL IN THE WORLD responsible for any guest' belongings, so WE WILL NOT compensate you in ANY WAY!"
This shows that they proudly accept misconducts by staff and don't care about their guests!
I am from here and they treated me this way, imagine how are they going to treat you who is not from Belize!!!
Just take my experience as a lesson and choose other safer hotels in San Pedro!!! And there are many that's professional and safe on the island of San Pedro!!!!
Remember, never stay at Belize Yacht Club unless you want to be the next victim!!!

“Untrustworthy and Very Irresponsible!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

This hotel is very horrible, it doesn't being managed well first of all, it's not safe as guest's personal items are being stolen by the hotel staff, very irresponsible because the welfare of guests is not being insured and ABSOLUTELY NO COMPENSATION for any lost or damages of hotel guests!!! and by the way, be aware of their scams on their website, they just trying to make you buy their rooms!!!
I was staying there from the 27th of december 2011 to the 3rd of january 2012, and my experience was horrible, the hotel staff facilitated a burglary in my room between 6:45 pm to 7:15 pm while i was swimming in the pool just couple feet away from my room!!! Then the hotel refused to take any responsibility and the manager didn't even call me personally and tell me sorry about my lost!!! and the owner of Belize Yacht Club said, " I TRAVEL EVERYWHERE IN THE WORLD, AND NO HOTEL IN THE WORLD RESPONSIBLE FOR GUEST'S LOST AND THEIR PROPERTY WITHIN THE HOTEL, SO WE WILL NOT COMPENSATE YOU IN ANY ANY WAY!!!", and i am a local Belizean that frequently staying there and they treated me like this, imagine how they will going to treat you knowing that you are not from here!!!
Please take my advice and consider another hotel besides Belize Yacht Club!!!

Room Tip: not this hotel, it's not SAFE!!!!!

“Great location, great staff, but run down...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 December 2011

The BYC was built in 85 and is beginning to show it's age.
Corners are being cut on maintenance with little updating.
Overall, the outside gardens are nice, the units are clean and comfortable...! Negotiate.

“Always A Relaxing Time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 December 2011

I see there are good, as well as bad reviews about the BYC, but I really like the place. I have been there four years in a row and the staff has always been top notch. My wife and I always get an ocean front room, which is very relaxing at night, with a fantastic view. There is no feeling like kicking back with your feet up, sipping a tasty adult beverage, with a fresh Monte Cristo and a fresh sea breeze blowing in at you.

All I can say is, I'll be back again this year and may years to come.

Room Tip: Step up and get an Ocean Fron View, you won't regret it.
