This 15-year-old secluded resort comfortably accommodates 10-30 people with personal service to a man, great diving, and well prepared meals that include interesting local dishes well worth trying. The facilities are well maintained, although they are starting to show a little wear. The cabanas are OK, but upgrading to a suite is well worth the extra expense comfort-wise. It's more the kind of place where the problems guests have are the ones they bring with them. The facility is scheduled to close down in August 2005 for a major renovation that will handle over 150 guests. Don't wait until it becomes like every place else! Belize has been discovered, but doesn't have the infrastructure to manage the demand. This situation is being addressed, and the character of Lighthouse Atoll will soon change. Dive boats are already making long trips from Belize City and San Pedro. A San Pedro-type town is under construction on Long Cay, and stops by cruise ships could ensue. Until then, you can enjoy the laid-back 1950's style British colonial flavor and the sense that you really have a remote tropical island and its extensive atoll pretty much to yourself. Its catch phrase, "You'll think you've dived and gone to heaven" is spot on. It's a great getaway for non-divers too. There are many resorts where one can dive and be well cared for in the Caribbean, but there is only one Lighthouse Reef Resort. I never had a better time.
