We stayed in the Attache Suite! Large, spacious room with a great private balcony for an after dinner cigar! We'll be back!

We stayed in the Attache for a weekend on our way to Siesta Key. We chose to stay in Apalachicola because of it's convenience to both Cape San Blas and St. George Island, with quaint small town convenience. Our suite was large with a living room open to a kitchen, a separate bedroom, bath, and (gasp!) even a laundry room. The bed was very comfortable and I was surprised to find they even had a sleep machine in the bedroom. The hardwood floors, brick walls, and high ceilings add character you don't find in typical hotels and made it feel like home. The kitchen was nicely supplied, including a Cuisinart coffee maker and organic coffee. The bathroom was nice, but with a pedestal sink it would have been nice to have a counter/cabinet to hold typical women's beauty tools (hair dryer, flat iron, make up bag, etc.). It also needed an extra towel hook to hang a second used towel on, and a higher pressure shower head would have been nice, but those are small items that can easily be dealt with. The suite was very clean and convenient to restaurants & shops. (Please note that restaurants close at 9pm (ET) on Saturday night in this town!) The Attache is the last room on the hall, which gives it more privacy than the others. (Although the pictures of the others look beautiful, too.) It also has it's own balcony and a back entrance/exit through the garden, which is lush and beautiful. The bay is across the street where we watched dolphins jumping out of the water. We considered staying at a local bed & breakfast, but forced socialization was not what we were looking for on this trip, preferring privacy and quietude instead - which we received and appreciated. It's character, cleanliness, and understated elegance made this a winner and I give it an overall A-. (It would have been an A+ if not due to those small issues and some ants on the kitchen counter). I recommend it highly.

The Consulate Suites were the best place to stay for a relaxing four-day vacation. The suite is impeccably clean and comfortable. It allowed us the space we needed to enjoy a laid-back, drive-to vacation spot within walking distance to shops and restaurants.. The restored architectural features of the Attache Suite provided a unique ambiance to our stay.

We tried the Consulate based on reviews in TripAdvisor and were well satisfied! Some of the docks are located directly across the street from the Consulate and it's a block or 2 walk to many, many restaurants and the main street area. Very convenient. You won't find such a fine selection of fresh seafood restaurants anywhere!

We were walking down the streets one night, trying to decide where to have supper, and instead ended up spending the night enjoying the Dixie Theater's "Blues In The Lot". We were probably the only non-locals in the place but we enjoyed the music greatly and also the chance to take part in something distinctly local in a historical, old theater.

Our "Port Captain" unit was very nice with a full compliment of furniture and kitchenware. This unit is starting to show a minor amount of wear but that's a very minor complaint. The Port Captain unit has 1 bedroom with queen bed, bathroom with shower, living room/kitchen and a small laundry room with washer/dryer which was nice for us. We had been travelling for 2 weeks and took advantage of the chance to run some clothes through the washer each night.

Cleaning crew shows up around 10:00 am, but otherwise never spotted any staff. No office or lobby.

I look forward to coming back.

Minor negatives:

Pets evidently are allowed - loud dog barking in one of the other units.

I wouldn't recommend this place if you have difficulty with long flights of stairs.

One side note - a gentleman in town told me that the owner of Consulate Suites passed away in December 2009 but his wife and family will continue to operate it.
