This was our second stay at Avon Old Farms Hotel. Lovely canopy draped bed. Bed and pillows were extremely comfortable and the sheets were high quality(very soft). Would definately stay again if in the area.

The hotel is older, our room had a funky smell in it...sort of a dirty sock smell. However, the bartender "Bernard" was fabulous. He gave us not only great service, but great directions, recommendations and a good time. If you head to the bar there, look him up he's the best.
The restaurant was very good for breakfast, that is the only meal we ate there. Parking is easy, the place is pretty, but the towels need some softener, we could exfoliate with them...
I liked the place, we were there 5 nights and got a good rate, but found out my sister in another room got a much cheaper rate.....anyway, it's nice, bar great, but overall not spectacular.

Avon Old Farms is a comfortable hotel with atmosphere and charm. The setting is beautiful. This would be a lovely place for a wedding, because there is a sizable outdoor patio and grassy treed grounds with plenty of gardens and space to wander. They hold lots of weddings and receptions. There is a bar and restaurant on-site, and the food is tasty and well-presented. The bar has mostly appetizer type selections, plus a soup or two. The restaurant is formal in mood with white tablecloths, heavy cutlery, substantial white plates. The hotel has three parts: the oldest part with canopy four poster beds, a newer wing and yet another separate wing, both of which are less vintage in feel. The decor is very New-England with Audubon prints, blue and white striped wallpaper and white cotton duvets, lots of pillows. A settee and coffee table, coffee maker, etc, standard. I have stayed in each part of the hotel as I work in Hartford for a week every summer. As an older hotel the rooms have unit air conditioners that can sometimes go on the fritz, but my colleages have always been re-housed in rooms that work. It has never bothered me, though. There's an large outdoor pool surrounded by trees, very lovely so there's sun and shade. There's also a grill bar that you can order burgers etc by the pool. Plenty of parking. Good for conferences and meetings. There is a fitness center but I haven't used it. They have a shuttle which will take you anywhere you need to go, including the airport which is 30 minutes away. Comfy and quiet. As I don't pay for it myself, I'm unsure what others may think of good value, but I have always enjoyed staying there. I've stayed there probably 10 times for a week each time.

I have been a travel agent and tour operator for over twenty years, I have stayed in the best of the beat and the worse of the worse. I was very happy with this property, especially the furnishings. The bedding was to die for, could have slept for days, but my nine year old had other plans, a visit to lake compounce was in order. The second day the pool was closed though, a great disappointment for her. The room did need alittle attention to scratches on the walls and furniture(a small detail that I always noted when bring groups to a property, the room was extremely clean though, make sure you ask for the main building and not the annex.) The restaurant does need a family friendly menu, but many other options in the area. The entire theme of the hotel made it a great getaway option to those in RI, Mass etc.
