“Good Value in Aspen”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2011

Stayed at Mountain Chalet Aspen in early December. Rooms are simple but more than adequate for what we needed, which was a bed, a shower, and a place to unwind at the end of the day. The bed was a bit soft for my liking but otherwise I really didn't have much to complain about the room. The best thing about the hotel is its location, which is at the base of the mountain and within a five minute walk to the gondola up Ajax mountain. Also accross the street is the transit station where you can catch free busses to Snowmass, Buttermilk, or Aspen Highlands. It was my first time in Aspen so being within walking distance of the heart of Aspen as well as the transit center made it easy to get around and see the different areas of this part of Colorado. The front desk was helpful in answering any questions we had, however it is only open from 7am to 10pm so plan accordingly. You won't mistake this hotel for a four star property, but the Mountain Chalet Aspen provides you with a very reasonably priced hotel in the high-end hotel area of Aspen.

“In the heart of Aspen”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 November 2011 via mobile

We stayed here begining of November. Great location. Could walk around everywhere. Great breakfast and clean rooms. Heated pool even in the winter. We had a balcony that faced the pool and mountains.

“cheerful, unique, comfortable and well located”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 October 2011

We booked a 2 bedroom apartment in this place and loved it. It was really roomy and clean with a good kitchen and dining area. It had a great ambience you feel like you could be in the Austrian alps with all those window boxes filled with flowers. We really enjoyed sitting out on the balcony with evening drinks watching the activities in the dog park across the road. The breakfast was ok, not brilliant quality but the price was right (free). The staff were pretty friendly to us although we didn't really interact much with them

“The last of old Aspen”

Great friendly place in the heart of Aspen. Across from the busses to snow mass. Near all the local restaurants and reasonable prices. Free breakfast makes a great start for the day.

“Rude staff, front desk needs training”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 October 2011

The front desk made reservation errors, and the manager was extremely rude and unaccommodating to us about it. Basically, we were accused of lying about the date we had reserved! It made no sense. Even a Super 8 manager would know that is unacceptable behavior. The owner of the hotel witnessed the exchange but did not intervene. She later went out of her way to apologize to us for having to go through that and said she would fix the issues for us, and then she never did. It was an unnecessarily unpleasant experience that ruined our evening. Otherwise the place was basically mediocre, good location of course, being in Aspen, but cramped, stuffy rooms, and somewhat noisy. The "you get what you pay for" philosophy of this hotel means you may have to deal with poorly-trained staff, bad service and an unfriendly atmosphere. All in all, we couldn't wait to get out of there, and we wouldn't go back though we visit Aspen often.

Unfortunately, after having looked into this, I believe the guest is right about this review. There was a mix-up with the reservation, and instead of focusing on resolving the problem, we focused on trying to assign blame. My apologies. This is not the way we intend to do business, and we will do better.
