“Beautiful & Delicious!”

I was fortunate to discover the Lodge when I was invited to a small retreat that was being held there. I had no idea what to expect as I live on the east coast -- and, I was so pleasantly surprised! The Lodge is located high in the mountains with beautiful views. The buildings, the food and the owners are each quite wonderful. The Lodge has a large common area, with some comfy couches & chairs. Also a patio & porches to appreciate the mountains. The meals were prepared and eaten in the kitchen, providing a warm and relaxed environment; and the owners were the most gracious and helpful. It snowed when we were there and I was not prepared -- but they had an extra pair of boots for me! There are individual cabins that are quite large, most with several beds, kitchens and couches -- all with a sweet rustic feeling. You know you are in the mountains. Bathrooms were totally adequate, very clean and newly painted, fluffy towels -- though not a "luxury bathroom." The best was the food! Each meal was better than the last -- and I love to eat and to cook. They also offer a raw foods menu which was unbelievably good. And I mean unbelievably good... we all raved at what we were eating. Was a most pleasant experience.

Room Tip: Ask about the configuration of the cabins... each has a sitting area, some with kitchens, and also a...

“Great Out-of-the-Way Getaway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2011

My family & I enjoyed the cozy "far-a-way" feel, yet we weren't very far from Estes Park and things we wanted to do. The cost was very reasonable, and Cory and Cathy were very friendly.

“Adorable rustic charm!”

My husband and I recently stayed at the Sunshine Mountain Lodge while visiting our children, who joined us at the lodge. This was my first cabin experience so I had no basis for comparison and relied on my husband for an opinion. He said it far surpassed any cabin at which he has every stayed. Cat and Cory, the lodge owners, have put their hearts into every aspect of the lodge while maintaining the rustic charm that fits it. The cabins are simple, lovingly decorated, and immaculately clean and have all the basics: a comfortable living area for relaxing, private sleeping, comfortable beds with quality bedding, a stove that kept us toasty warm at night and a spotless kitchen where care was even taken to have coffee and sugar and canisters stocked with staples. A delightul fresh and different breakfast awaited us each morning in the main lodge along with freshly brewed coffee and an amazing assortment of fresh local teas. Cat's own raw granola and banana milk were amazing! There are a couple hammocks, a picnic area with fire pit, a hot tub, and a little trail that gave us a good workout to the clearing at the top of their property for a peek at the mountaintops. The view of the stars and the black mountain across the road at night took our breath away. There are an outside deck and patio garden seating area off the main lodge for relaxing outside the cabin as well. It is a reasonable drive to hiking trails, RMNP and Estes Park so there is plenty to do, and Cat and Cory are knowledgeable about the area. While maintaining its rustic charm, the love and care that have been taken here are obvious at every turn and I am looking forward to a return to the hospitality of Sunshine Mountain!

“Ok stay for 4-days/nights”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 August 2011

I was with some friends on Motorcycles for 4-days/nights at the lodge, July 20-24th, the wife and I stayed in the econo cabin #6 which was attached to cabin #5 with a door between the two cabins, it was ok but for the money I guess I was expecting a little more, the cabin windows had been sealed/glued shut so you could not open any windows to get air movement, even in the mtns a couple of nights were very hot and stuffy in the cabin, the rest of the cabins which there were 5 said the same thing, only one cabin had a fan that was available and none of the others...the upstairs of the lodge was very hot and stuffy also with no windows that opened. the kitchen area was very good for serving meals and the living room of the lodge was nice also with a patio for night time sit arounds..trails up to cabins difficult to drive a motorcycle on..overall ok, but again for the money could have been better...

“Excellent venue for a retreat!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 August 2011

I coordinated the 2011 Men's Rocky Mountain Knitting Retreat in July 2011. Twenty guys spent 3 nights and 4 days at the Sunshine Mountain Lodge with field trips to Boulder and Estes Park. The group unanimously loved everything about Sunshine Mountain Lodge and the owners, Cathy and Cory. The cabins, lodge, and beds were cozy and very comfortable. The food was delicious and healthy and plentiful. The large meeting room was perfect for group gatherings. The spot is beautiful with ample outdoor seating. Cathy and Cory were extremely helpful and responsive throughout the planning stages and right up through the end of the retreat. We were sad to have to leave Sunshine Mountain Lodge. I highly recommend it for all types of getaways!!! We definitely plan to return next year!

Room Tip: Depending on what you need, the lodge and cabins are all really great.
