“Newly updated & greatly improved”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2011

Had stayed at this Super 8 about 4 years ago and found it to be needing renovation. Evidently the management has done this within the last year and the place is vastly improved. The reception/check-in desk area is also the breakfast area. As in most motel/hotels, it is really too small for the number of clients using it in the mornings. The breakfast is greatly improved over what I remember it had been-includes muffins, bagels, make your own waffles, 2 choices of cereal, coffee & juice machine. Area was clean & had stainless steel trashcans with self-closing lids (silent). Much nicer to look at than the open bins with everyone's garbage overflowing. If that isn't enough for you to eat, fast food is next door & across the side street.
The non-smoking room had a new & comfortable king bed with adequate pillows. The carpet is new but unfortunately had been stained by someone who spilled some white gunk on it-otherwise the room was clean. The sink is separate from the toilet & shower and is set in a small granite countertop. The towels could stand an upgrade from the coarse "military issue". The tub seems to be the old one and really could have been replaced when they did the renovation (same with A/C). The desk was large and had a nice comfy chair and a good wireless connection. Room also had a fridge/microwave. Our room had a good view of the Burger King drive thru next door, but the hotel can't help the noise people cause by playing their music so loud while they sit in the line. Turning on the A/C unit drowned that out for the night. Our room was near the middle of the building so we weren't bothered by noise from the main road. The staff on the desk were business-like, but not particularly friendly. That doesn't bother me-I'd rather efficient than gabby. We stayed at the Super 8 since it was (literally) half the price of nearby (newer) hotels-it was the right decision. I can't understand why hotels in this small town are so expensive. Would stay at this hotel again. For good eats, check out the San Luis Valley Brewing Company in downtown.

“Very Clean Rooms, Very Polite and Helpful Staff, Older Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 September 2011

This was an unexpected stay, we were planning on driving the whole way through, then stopped in Alamosa because we couldn't possibly drive any further.

Most places in town were sold out when we were there - the crane festival was going on. We got a King Suite for about $58 nightly. Pleasantly surprised by the enormous red heart-shaped jacuzzi tub in our room. Also pleasantly surprised by the fact that it was clean. We could tell upon pulling up that this was an older hotel, but it is all interior-entrance (meaning no rooms open into the parking lot), so we went for it.

They were undergoing renovations/remodeling while we were there. No one mentioned it to us, nor were there any signs indicating so, but there was a pile of old furniture in the parking lot (I think they were the old desks or dressers from the rooms that had already been removed), our vanity in our bathroom was ... interesting, and there were various other updates in our room that did not fit in with the rest of the room.

Despite the renovations, our room was clean, the linens were freshly changed and the carpet had been vacuumed recently. Housekeeping staff was pretty friendly in the halls. We didn't partake in the breakfast either morning (if it's unimpressive, there's a McDonald's next door and several restaurants a few blocks down the street).

If you're looking for an inexpensive, clean room, this is a pretty good place to try. It may feel older and dingy, but we had no problems with the cleanliness of our room, the staff and the price of the room.

“What a Dump”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 July 2011

I did not expect the Hilton, but i did not expect a dump. The pillows were flat and I requested another pillow. The answer was that they were all out of extra pillows. The bathroom had a dirty towel and used soap in it. They provided no toiletries other than 1 sm bottle of shampoo and conditioner. No lotion or other items. Sign says the motel is recently renovated. A hole in the wall in the room I was in about fist size was filled in with a large glob of putty and painted over. It was soft and mushy. The bathroom had not been cleaned and when they gave the room at sign in and they did not offer to clean it for me. Towels and wash cloths were like sand paper. The key cards would not keep their memory and I constantly had to get the cards reset -4 times in 2 days. The pool looked dirty. I would not set foot in it. I won’t stay there again!

Room Tip: Bring your own pillows and cleaning supplies and good tow

“Just don't.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 June 2011

As another reviewer said, "Below par for Super 8."

Main points:
- grumpy, unhelpful desk clerk
- teeny tiny swimming pool (never seen one smaller -- seriously)
- mineral deposits & water spots all over the faucets
- gritty dirt on the tile bathroom floor
- traffic noise (not really the hotel's fault, but still a problem)
- only offerings at breakfast were bagels, pre-packaged muffins, waffles, cold cereal, and boiled eggs. No toast, no oatmeal packets, NO fruit (even though it's early summer)

Let me be clear: I am not that hard to please. We are a road-tripping, coupon-clipping, penny-pinching family. But the problems with this motel are too easy to fix -- the only explanation is negligence. Train the clerk to smile and be nice; scrub the bathrooms a little better; get a few more things for the breakfast bar. Traffic noise & teeny pool? I could overlook both if there'd been friendliness, cleanliness, and better breakfast offerings. (Note: the morning crew was very nice -- that's the only reason I'm giving the motel a "2" on service.)

the room was outdated, slightly dirty and oddly configured (extremely low sink). I don't plan on staying here again.
