Hubby and I splurged on a weekend at the Inn during a trip to the island this fall to run in an annual race held in Catalina. We'd eyed the Inn, set majestically at the top of a hill, during one our previous visits to the island and dreamed of staying there. The visit surpassed our wildest expectations and has spoiled us for life - there will be no way we can come to Catalina in the future without returning to the Inn on Mt. Ada!
The service is exceptional - you're met at the ferry by the host and taken up to the Inn where you're given a tour of the facilities. Our room (#3, the Windsor Room) has an incredible corner view and the most cozy fireplace. The bathroom was adorably vintage in its fixtures.
The staff are attentive, very accessible, and will arrange anything that you might need - dinner reservations, tours, etc.
The amenities are simply over the top and set the Inn apart from any other B&B experience. Each evening, there are appetizers and wine in the bar, and your room rate also includes breakfast and lunch in the Inn's gorgeous dining room overlooking the quaint Avalon harbor below. If the weather is nice, you're invited to dine outside on the patio. There is a butler's pantry stocked with drinks, snacks and even ice cream sundae ingredients - available 24 hours a day. Carmen and her staff in the kitchen are delightful and serve delicious traditional meals at breakfast and lunch with a Mexican special each day - the Barbacoa was incredible! Your stay also includes the unlimited use of a golf cart for travel around Avalon. If you don't feel like carting yourself, the staff will arrange for taxi service.
Staying here made me feel just a bit guilty as I felt that I'd rather lounge around at the Inn, all cozy and relaxed, than do much exploring of Avalon. (Although, if that's the Inn's only short-coming, I guess there really isn't much to complain about, is there?)
We are already looking forward to a return visit next year when we're back for our race! Thank you staff at the Inn at Mt. Ada!
