We stayed here during Labor Day weekend to celebrate our birthdays by visiting Paso Robles wine country. Neither of us had been to this area before, and we were looking for somewhere comfortable and convenient to the Paso Robles wineries without breaking the bank on the holiday weekend (since we only booked about 2 weeks out). We were originally looking in Morro Bay and Cambria, but ultimately chose to go with Atascadero to avoid Paso Robles prices but still be close to the downtown area and the many wineries.
The Best Western Plus Colony Inn was a very pleasant surprise. It was about a 10 minute drive to downtown Paso Robles, and no more than 20 minutes from even the furthest winery out that we visited (Justin). Our room was larger than average, king sized bed, overlooked the pool, and had a couch (fold-out), flat screen tv, and refridgerator. The A/C was quite useful as it was very hot that weekend, and the room and hotel were clean, and comfortable. The complimentary breakfast was great too, and much-needed with a lot of wine tasting on our agenda. Our favorite part: making our own fluffy waffles every morning!
Is this the place to stay for a romantic retreat where you can indulge in an opulent room and all sorts of crazy ammenities? No. But, for us, it was comfortable, affordable, and most importantly - convenient to everywhere we wanted to go. Dinner in Templeton, Paso Robles Wineries, day trip to Hearst Castle, restaurants and shops in downtown Paso Robles...all very close and easy to get to. What we saved on costs of our room, we were able to spend on doing things and going places....much more valuable to us overall.
If you're looking for something close to everything you'd want to see and do in the Paso area, somewhere safe, clean, and comfortable, and somewhere that won't cost an arm and a leg to stay...I'd recommend this inn to you. When we return to the area, I'm certain we'll stay here again. It's an unbeatable value for the price, and super convenient.
Room Tip: Rooms not facing the pool might be quieter, but we had no trouble with noise with the windows shut.
