“More like an apartment than a hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

The Residence Inn penthouse suite was my Dad and my home base during a recent Southern California visit. I chose this hotel among the many, many "suite" hotel options as it was the only one with two separate sleeping areas AND two bathrooms. These were key when traveling with my 85 year old father! For this I paid a bit more (around$110/night AAA rate), but that was still far cheaper than renting two regular hotel rooms and the other places "suites" were usually just a sleeper sofa the other side of a half wall.

The main selling point of this hotel is room size and amenities. Full kitchen, full refrigerator, all dishes and pans, 3 flat screen tvs, 2 full bathrooms, 2 bedrooms (very comfy king, queen beds), lots of square footage. Note: The penthouse suites are located on the second floor with no elevator access.

There is a continental breakfast included, nothing special, but adequate. (why is the fruit on these spreads always green?). They also do a managers social hour, on Monday the week we were there. It featured really cheap wine, beer that tasted like water, popcorn and potato chips, BBQ beef sandwiches, and salad. Other guests seemed to be making a dinner of it.

All in all for a family or multiple adults who want to have lots of room and separate sleeping/bathroom areas, this is a great option!

“Comfortable Stay with Convenient Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2012

Stayed at the property for 2 nights while attending a family gathering back in October 2011. Our family of 4 stayed in a Studios with a King bed and a sofa bed, it was a bit tight since we have a 9yo and a 12yo, but definitely manageable! Friendly front desk staff, free parking, free breakfast, and WIRED in-room internet service, NO Wi-Fi service!

Clean rooms, well equipped kitchen. We got a good deal from Priceline, and the location is very convenient on Huntington Blvd, plenty of restaurants in the vicinity. Or, if you don't mind the long wait, drive over to Baldwin Avenue for the infamous XLB (Xiao Long Bao/Chinese Pork Dumplings) at Din Tai Fung!

I would recommend this lodging option if you're traveling with young children, and need amenities such as a microwave, refrigerator, etc.

“Felt like home!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 December 2011

Spent the weekend in LA and had the pleasure of staying at this hotel. The 2 floor suite was very spacious and very clean. 3 flat screen TV, living room and fully stocked kitchen made it feel like home.

Room Tip: Go for the suites, excellent deal.

“Does the job very competently”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 December 2011

Stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks after normally staying at the Embassy Suites just next door. The great thing about the Residence Inn is the large and very well equipped kitchen. But if you don't plan on doing any cooking and want a larger room, go to the Embassy Suites next door.

However, that said, the Residence Inn rooms for a single business traveller are spacious enough. The bed is large and comfortable, the TV is huge, and you get plenty of room for storing clothes and other personal stuff. The decor is getting dated, but at least everything is clean (more than can be said for the Embassy Suites).

The front desk personnel were always friendly and helpful. The wired (not wireless) internet connection is fast and there are plenty of spare power sockets in the room (also good for the business traveller).

My complaints about the Residence are few;
1. Hotels need to learn that if they provide appliances in an open plan apartment, then you need to buy quality QUIET appliances. I ended up turning off the fridge and the aircon/heater.
2. The bathroom is small. No swinging a cat in here!!
3. Walls to adjoining units are thin. Fortunately my neighbours were quiet, but other colleagues staying here were not so lucky.
4. I personally do not like hotels where you eat breakfast off throw away plates using plastic cutlery. Not only do I consider it a huge waste of the world's resources, but it projects cheapness instead of quality.

Would I stay here again over the Embassy Suites next door - Yes.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms on the upper floors to minimise those neighbour noises coming through the thin walls.

“Pretty Good!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

Check in was fast and easy, the front desk person was very pleasant and polite and helpful.
I asked for a 2nd floor unit which we got, I did not hear any freeway noise at all but we were in room 1123 and I could hear trash trucks or something if the sort at 6AM..we also did not have a fireplace...I hear they are in the interior units of the building. I got a great deal on Priceline for $73 so for that I was very happy with the room...The bed was a tad too soft for me, they are all King size in the studios...the kitchen was full size with a desk/table and a pullout couch and new LG TV...I have no complaints about this place it was totally convenient, clean and perfect for what I needed. Free Breakfast which was nice and a free managers wine/cocktail hour also free with beer and wine..only thing that was a bummer is no free wifi in the rooms but I guess you cant have everything!

Room Tip: Choose second floor room...ask for quietest building at check in.
