“Really disappointed”

After thoroughly researching hotels in the area we decided on the Embassy Suites particularly after reading many of the trip advisor comments. We are a family of 4 and thought the hotel and location sounded great. Unfortunately we were terribly disappointed. The staff were pleasant enough but the hotel was in real need of an update. The carpets along all the floors were covered in huge stains which made it feel really grubby.

We have never stayed in a hotel that didn't offer a hot buffet breakfast where you help yourself. The Embassy Suites cook your breakfast to order at a "counter" which was fairly limited in choice. We stayed at a fairly quiet time of year and had to wait for our breakfast, I could imagine it would be a nightmare at busier times. The cold choice of breakfast was extremely poor (no decent pastries - only bagels and small muffins - two choices of cut up fruit and a rubbish selection of cereal. It was the worst breakfast choice of any hotel I have stayed in.

The pool area is nice if you don't mind navigating a load of maid's carts, crates and other hotel equipment to get there. You also get a decent view of the inner workings of the hotel as you bypass the hotel laundry and the back of the breakfast kitchen. You also get a rather attractive view right into the car park from the pool. The changing facilities in the pool area are virtually non existent. Just a large toilet with nowhere to hang your clothes or put them down whilst you get changed - you will have to use the toilet floor!

We chose the suites so that we could have more room to spread out but ended up just using the bedroom as the lounge (which is in the inner part of the hotel) was extremely dark and could not be used without lighting which was fairly dim at best.

When searching for hotels in Pasadena, the Embassy Suites came up. Being from New Zealand we had no idea that it was 7 miles away and only realised once we'd booked. However Arcadia is a decent little town with great eating places and a great mall.

If you are used to staying in somewhere a bit nicer and can afford it, my advice would be to pay the extra $60 per night and stay in luxury at the Langham in Pasadena - I wish we had!

Room Tip: We were in room 624 which was away from the elevator and had views across the city towards the mount...

“great group service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

Our group of 225 stayed during the Tournament of Roses Parade and were very impressed with hotel staff and service given our large size. Rooms were clean, spacious, comfortable and meals very good and very efficiently served - important when we often had less than an hour to get everyone fed and on the busses! Beds were super comfortable and staff always willing to help out when needed The open concept of the atrium was very helpful in better keeping track of all our band members and elevator traffic, etc. For our basic needs, it fit the bill for our Pasadena Tour!

“Long in the Tooth & Dirty”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

I stayed here for one week while working on floats for the Rose Bowl Parade. I called ahead to ask if the bath tubs were standard size or larger, knowing I'd need to soak after a long 12 hour work day. They lied said the tubs were big - they are not. The room was dirty, a huge hair ball was living under the sink. The chair at the desk was really gross with it's white stain (was it baby formula? Human DNA from a sexual encounter?) . When I moved the sofa and side chair to better see the TV, old food and a hair clip were visible. Does anyone ever move the furniture when vacuuming - NO.
The toilet tank in my room ran every 15 minutes, but closing the door helped muffle that sound. I could never get the hot water hot enough, there were mold (dirt?) stains on the bathroom wall between the tub and the door frame, the light over the mirror seemed to be falling off the wall - or someone doesn't know how to use a level!
Just a mess. Only saving grace was that the bed was comfortable, and the sheets clean.

Room Tip: I was on the second floor and my bedroom window looked out over the roof of the banquet/function roo...

“Average rooms, but a sweet breakfast gave it an extra star!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

The rooms in the Embassy Suites were pretty comparable to any mid-level hotel chain in a major city. There was some "wear and tear", but the place was acceptable, nonetheless.

But of all the mid-level hotel chains I had stayed at, this was probably the best complimentary breakfast I ever had. With a "cooked to order" vegetarian omelet, sausage, and hot cakes, paired with some orange juice and a morning newspaper, I could have married the hotel! Other than tipping a few dollars to the staff, the breakfast was completely free. Normally, if we go out for that type of meal, it is easily 40-50 bucks. Well worth the price to stay at Embassy Suites.

“Keep looking for somewhere else”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

Old & needs updating is not the only downside, but deferred maintenance...The cleanliness factor also lacked.
We stayed in room 502, and the sink was damaged about the size of a softball.
The bathrooms are small.
The sofa bed was mushy & not comfortable, there weren't any additional bedding, like another comforter or pillows.

The heating & cooling is totally budget, not having individual thermostats in the room. The hotel controls whether they allow you to use a/c or heat depending on the weather. Strange.

The indoor pool & jacuzzi were nice, but the location is odd..right next to housekeeping carts & the housekeeping laundry area. Even though housekeeping was so close they still failed to keep the towels in the pool stocked.

Yeah, the evening reception with pretzels & free alcohol is ok, and the cooked breakfast filled our bellies, but overall mediocre quality and we would have opted for a nicer room.

We will not stay here again.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else
