“idyllic retreat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 August 2009

We were in the Soquel area for one of Jim Denevan's Outstanding in the Field feasts. His website recommended this B&B as a convenient place to stay near the farm. The Denevan event was a great experience and so was our overnight in Uncle Chester's 250-yr-old bed at Apple Lane Inn. Breakfast the next morning, cooked and served by the owner's delightful college student son, was wonderful--granola cereal with pumpkin seeds and scrumptious cheddar and cottage cheese soufflés.

“A hidden treasure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 December 2008

Peaceful & perfect. We loved our visit to the Apple Lane Inn. We were looking for a B&B with old world charm and that is exactly what we found. I booked the Pineapple room upon looking at a photo online, it had a european feel with it's four poster bed and armoire. Breakfast in the parlor was lovely and shared with a very nice couple. A wonderful time; we will come back.

“dirty, tired”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2008

I have stayed in many beautiful old homes, but this is not one of them. Mostly it was very dirty. Dust bunnies under the bed, mildew in the shower, cobwebs everywhere. The breakfast was not the worst ever but below average. The towels were old and threadbare. There was no place to put your things as there were stuffed animals, fake flowers, and doo-dads everywhere. The one good thing I will say about it is it is pretty quiet - even though it is off a busy road I couldn't hear road noise.

“Won't be returning”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 October 2008

Historical home, yes; but also tired and worn. Definitely shows its age. I don't mind old, but the breakfast was pretty awful--direct from Costco. We skipped the second day's fare, and I think the inn-keeper was miffed. The fact that he showed it is a strike against him. Given that this is a relatively expensive area, the prices here are quite reasonable. Just skip the breakfast.

“History, Nature, Good Music, Good Food, Warm Bed, and it goes on ...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2008

This was our family's third stay at Apple Lane Inn. We favor the Wine Cellar, and look forward to our return when our son graduates UC Santa Cruz next June. If you want history, it surrounds you in the Inn, with references throughout the parlor. If you want nature, it surrounds the Inn. Be sure to stay on a Saturday evening so that you can enjoy Sunday morning's music with Doug on Bass and Carol on the Banjo. They take you back 50 to 100 years, but it feels contemporary as you are arm's length from the performers. The food is varied, quite good, and more than sufficient in quantity. No one goes away hungry. We love the Wine Cellar. Appropriately named, it is spacious, with a never-before-seen stained glass window that can be viewed inside and out. The beds are warm and comfortable. We are beginning to feel like family in this one-of-a kind B&B in Aptos.
