“Beware of transient tax!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 October 2011

We checked in at the timeshare only to find out that Angels Camp charges a transient tax. We were only there for 4 nights but had to pay $51.48 in tax. We have been to several other Worldmark resorts this year but this was the first timeshare where we got charged (other than Hawaii). The resort itself is fine although we didn't spend much time there, we always headed out sightseeing. We were in building O, right across from the check-in area. We also had the 1st level (a few steps down) with whole unit on the same level. Kitchen was well stocked as Worldmarks are. The bed and couch were reasonably comfortable. TV had the major satelite channels - Food, HGTV, Discovery, History, etc.

Angels Camp area doesn't have a lot going for it. It isn't high enough to get out of the heat in the summer. There are caves/caverns in the area if you like that kind of thing, but we have been to several. We did enjoy the Big Trees State Park north of Arnold. Even in the rain we enjoyed the walk and the trees. We spent most of the time driving to/from/around Yosimite. We were always too tired at the end of the day to do much cooking so we went out for several dinners. The place didn't have too much to offer in good restuarants.

What we did find great were the coupons at the lobby for Angels Food Market 2-4-1 deli sandwiches. Each night we went in and selected our meats/cheeses for the next day's lunch. There fruits & veggies looked good too.

“We'll definitely be back!”

We went to Angel's Camp for my father in law's 60th birthday party. We had two rooms - one was a two bedroom twin and the other was a two bedroom queen. There was lots of space and the kitchens were fully stocked. They even had a mixer for the cupcakes that we thought we'd be whisking with a fork. The pool was warm enough, but no too warm. The kids pool was perfect for our 2yr old and 4yr old. They had a fantastic time too. Each unit has it's own bbq, so come prepared to smell everyones wonderful dinner aroma throughout the location. My only complaint is that the beds are a bit firm. We have a super plus mattress at home, so I wasn't used to the bed. Both days we went to New Melones - awesome water! We also played 9 holes of golf right across the street. All in all, it was a wonderful 3 day weekend and we'll definitely be back!

“Beautiful area, Wonderful stay”

We got a room that overlooked the golf course and it was more than beautiful. Ours had an upstaires bedroom with a queen bed. It was large and had its own bathroom. The only beds I like are at Marriotts so I now travel with a foam pad which turns an average bed into a great nights sleep. The bedroom down stairs had two twin beds and worked well for the kids. There is a full bath and large kitchen when you come in the front door. The murphy bed was comfortable for my daughter and left alot of space in the living room when folded back into the wall. The porch has its own grill and I got help starting it minutes after I called. We checked out all the caverns in the area and found each one to be different and worth the trip. Yosemite was a liitle far but helped us to plan the next tirp. We ran out of time to see everything and will be going back.

“Gem in the Sierra Foothills”

We stayed in a 2-bedroom 2-bath condo for $115 a night and can't get over what a deal it was! I highly recommend staying here if you're in the area, you won't be disappointed. The only negative, we asked the girl at the front desk if she had any recommendations for a good place for breakfast in Angels Camp. Well, she printed out directions to a restaurant in Merced...an hour and 45 minutes away! She was very sweet though...

“Very Nice Resort - Not At All Like Negative Reviews of Past”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 June 2010

My husband and I stayed at this resort with my elderly parents for a week beginning Memorial Day weekend. This was a timeshare exchange and I was, frankly, a bit concerned as to what we would find at check-in given the negative reviews that have been posted on this site.

My first positive impression was obtained weeks prior to our arrival when I contacted the resort directly to request that we be assigned a unit that had few or no stairs. I spoke directly with the Manager, Bennett, who was very helpful and friendly.

When we arrived, we found our single floor 2 Bdrm unit to be very clean and well maintained. I even walked around in white socks for a while just to check the review of the woman who claimed that the units were dirty :-) The furnishings were nice and quite clean as opposed to some the pictures that I had seen. The pull-out Murphy bed in the living room was a nice touch as it still allowed for the use of the couch.

Being a busy holiday weekend we were not disturbed by noise even though we were directly across from the office and the pools. The pools seemed nice and guests could borrow from the front desk all of the equipment needed for using the very well maintained basketball and tennis courts. The exercise room had PreCor ellipticals, treadmills, and a universal. Wireless internet was available in the units via a special box that would service 2 computers for 10 days for $15.99. There was also a daily rate but the 10 day rate was certainly the best deal. A couple of computers with free internet access were also available in the lobby along with a free-use color printer.

The staff at the front desk bent over backwards to be helpful, providing recommendations for restaurants and activities and delivering a light bulb and a fan within minutes of my request. My parents checked in ahead of me and that might have diverted the attention of the sales staff because I was never solicited even one time to attend a sales presentation.

This place is in the middle of nowhere and if you are looking for something other than time to spend lounging by the pool, you will have to set out on your own. We checked out a couple of the caverns (not our style), and then hit the must see places such as Calaveras Big Tree State Park (40 min), Yosemite Hetch Hetchy Valley (2 hr), Black Oak Casino where I actually won money (45 min), the Angels Camp Museum (10 min), and the town of Murphys (25 min). The Gold Country is a hot spot for California wineries and most have located tasting rooms in Murphys so that you don't have to drive all over the countryside going from winery to winery. If you drive southeast toward Groveland or Yosemite, make it a point to stop for breakfast at the Big Oak Restaurant in Big Oak Flat on Cal 120. You will not be disappointed. Take the shortcut up old Priest Grade Road as it will save you 20 minutes. A million thanks to Ginger at the resort office for making this recommendation and even going so far as to Mapquest it out for us.
