There aren't many places to stay in Angels Camp. There are funky-sounding places such as The Leaping Frog but having stayed at historic places like that elsewhere I decided to go with a known name and heck with rustic. This was my first stay at a Best Western. Checking in was fast, efficient. I had made a reservation online a few days before - not a discount site, the hotel site. The prices were exactly the same so save yourself time and go directly to the BW site. I got the AAA rate which was the lowest I could get from all the cheap rate sites for this time of year. From the street the hotel has a neat, modern look. It's not historic but not intrusive. The lobby is comfortable and neat, with a living room area set off from a breakfast area. We stayed on a first floor room that was a king bed room, not a suite, with a living area and desk set off from the sleeping area. Larger than expected. Extremely quiet-no noise from the hallway or the parking area, which was right outside the sliding door. Free wifi everywhere in the hotel. Breakfast consisted of choice of coffee, tea, juices, milk, cereals hot or cold, Belgian waffle, yogurt and an assortment of breads and muffins. More than enough for me. The coffee was bad but that can be fixed. Room had big fluffy towels, plenty of amenities, actual coffee maker (not the little single cup jobbies). TV is not flat screen but worked just fine, and is visible from the bed or living area. If one person wanted to sleep while the other slept, that could be an issue. Hotel has a pleasant pool area and an exercise room with a treadmill and weight machine. And a Stairmaster. Washing machine and dryer on first floor. The hotel is very pet-friendly. The place was full this weekend and I know there were pets around but there was no trouble with noise or any crowding. First floor is very easily accessible for wheelchairs or the less agile. No pet scents. The place is kept amazingly clean. The room was spotless and the lighting was bright enough to read. No zero-watt green squiggle bulbs. At breakfast there was always someone checking around and restocking. All I can say is well done, there are a lot of big fancy places that could take their cues from the way this hotel is run.
