“Quiet, restful, gorgeous grounds, great food!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 November 2011

We needed a hotel near Redding, but everything was so expensive (Redding? Really, what's that all about?). We tried Gaia, just south of Redding, and were more than thrilled. Clearly we had found a hidden gem. Not at all crowed, we were extremely surprised by the large gorgeous grounds. The staff were professional and made you feel relaxed, all except for the server at breakfast in their onsite restaurant. She could have toned down her voice a bit and have been less of a hash slinger. This place is too upscale and calming for that! The food in the onsite restaurant (can't recall the name right now) was surprisingly good, with the fish tacos being the best I have ever had. Our only major complaint was that the lighting, or should I say lack of lighting, in the room was reprehensible. We discussed driving to a nearby store and purchasing a reading lamp, but put that off for another time. But maybe that was ok, because we ended up going to bed at 8 pm and had a really good nights sleep. When we checked out, the staff asked for our input and we gave it. They said they were in the process of upgrading the lighting in the rooms and they seemed sincerely open to customer input. I like that!

“Excellent Place to Stop”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

Gaia Hotel in Anderson, Ca. is an excellent place to stop especially for people traveling with dogs. They are reasonably priced ($25 for pets, regardless of number and days stayed). The grounds are much like walking in a park. Nice fountain with swans swimming in it. Friendly staff at the hotel and attached restaurant. The breakfasts there were wonderful, and the breakfast buffet for $7.95 was outstanding. It is close to freeway but not noticeably. Close to outlets and espresso. That was my second extended stay and would do so again.

“Green and Environmentally Sensitive relaxing stopover on a drive back to Canada”

Efficient and friendly check-in and staff.
The hotel has various initiatives in place to be environmentally sensitive. For example our bathroom had a sky light to allow in natural light and water efficient toilets, recycling is encouraged throughout the property and the toiletries are eco friendly. There are vending machines on-site, a spa, fitness room and very clean pool with loungers, patio tables and chairs. Of note were the plush padding of the sun loungers and chairs available at the pool.
Our room was ground floor with a patio complete with picnic type wooden lounge chairs. We thoroughly enjoyed sitting and relaxing there after a long drive with a couple of beers and watching the various wildlife in front of us. The free Wi-Fi was a very good connection, the room spacious and well maintained and clean and the bathroom too.
The grounds are beautiful, complete with fountains, swans and beautiful Blue Jays and a couple of lizards here and there. There are lovely wooded trails to meander around and it is hard to believe this hotel is so close to a major freeway.
Though in sight of the freeway, you could hear traffic from the patio, once the doors and blinds were closed, we had no trouble sleeping in the very comfortable bed.
There is an outlet mall about 10mins away and a Safeways and Walmart less than that away.
The on-site restaurant/bar – the Woodgrill – has excellent food and service ; 2 entrees, 1 appy, no alcohol for $46 before tip was very reasonable for the quality and presentation of the dishes. We particularly appreciated out waiter (Jeremy?) who, when asked about a particular mushroom flavor disappeared to the kitchen and brought one out to us to show us. His service and other wait staff both evening and morning meals was very professional.
Definitely a great overnighter if you are on a long drive – choose a ground floor room with patio to fully relax in the natural surroundings.

Room Tip: Choose a ground floor room with patio to fully relax in the natural surroundings.

“Euro Styling”

I have stayed at Gaia twice now, about a year apart. This time i am annoyed with what i did not find in the room: directions for wireless, wine opener, new writing paper. OK, small things. But when i asked about a wine opener/cork screw I was told i could go to the restaurant but they would charge corkage! NOT. I ate at the restaurant and the server agreed to open my bottle for use in my room without charge. Internet is sketchy although they have repeaters throughout the complex. I will consider staying here again.
Restaurant was average this time.

Room Tip: Ask for building C with room facing fountains. IF you are one who wants to sleep with windows open...

“A Hidden Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2011

We recently took off on a road trip for our 10th Anniversary with no hotel reservations and no plans of where we wanted to go. Our first night brought us to the Redding/Anderson area and a quick search on Trip Advisor led us to the Gaia. We paid $85/night which was a lot less than any of the other hotels in the area. Our room was at least twice the size of most any hotel We've ever stayed in. It was spotlessly clean and the bed was very comfortable. Even though our room was on the side near the freeway I was amazed that there was almost no noise penetrating our room. We enjoyed a wonderful dinner at their restaurant which included live piano music. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful during both our check-in and check-out. In the morning the young man working the desk took the time to make recommendations for some of the places we wanted to visit (vinyards, coffee shops, etc.) and printed out maps for us to use.

We would definitely go back to the Gaia for another stay and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a nice, comfortable yet affordable place to stay near Redding.
