This is the second time my family and I have stayed at this hotel, and not a lot has changed between 2001 and now...
location - YOU CAN"T BEAT IT! They are situated kiddy corner to California Adventure park, and just up the street from the Disney hotels...it takes less than 20 minutes to walk to the Grand Californian hotel, cut through to Downtown Disney, and enter the parks...FANTASTIC! There is also a shuttle stop right outside the hotel, which came in handy when we didn't feel like walking back after a loooong day :) They are right next to an excellent restaurant, too!
Check-In - The desk agents were friendly and welcoming, and very accommodating. We were a group of 6 with 2 rooms, and though we did originally ask for side-by-side rooms, we were not granted this request. We also asked for QUIET ROOMS above all else, but the first night, our room was right next to the main drag! It sounded like the semis were driving through our room! But through a polite exchange with one of the front desk agents, we were able to secure a room the next day that was MUCH quieter, and, lo and behold, next to our family with the second room! Hmm...wasn't that what we asked for in the first place? But the front desk people were very patient with us, so shout out to them!
Rooms - Yes people, it's a motel, so the rooms will not be deluxe, but they were absolutely fine for what we needed them for - a place to sleep, and once and awhile chill out in the middle of a hectic park day. The beds were comfortable, the sinks OUTSIDE the bathroom are always nice for this family of four, and the air conditioning was a godsend! The Wi-Fi didn't work in our first room, but we had no problems with it in our second room...housekeeping came every day like clockwork!
Pool - They have two pools and a large jacuzzi, and a little kids wading pool, but it's nothing special, and is set up next to one of the main roads with a chain link fence in between the pool area and the street. But it served its purpose, and helped us cool down at the end of a looong day...I believe the pool area was open till 11:00pm!!
Breakfast - they have a complimentary breakfast set up adjacent to the lobby, a whole room for sitting and catching a bite to eat before heading out. It was a decent bounty of cereal, toast, pancakes, eggs, and doughnuts and juice/coffee, but it was busy EVERY morning, unless you timed it right...either early, or just after 8:00am.
My one gripe would have to be the vending machines...I had to hunt down bottled water one night, and NONE of the vending machines were stocked...it wasn't until I reached the very last one on the property that I was able to get some bottled water (probably because no one wanted to walk that far!) so they need to work on that, also, a couple of the machines were faulty, and wouldn't accept my money, while some of them worked just fine...recommend that if you want water, buy it at the corner store and stock it in your mini-fridge.
All in all, we would stay at Stovall's again for its location and the people who worked there...it's not the fanciest hotel, but it gets the job done, especially when the price is right!!
Room Tip: Rooms further away from the main road are quieter, and closer to the elevators!!
