This was our second stay at the Desert Inn. Last year (see my previous review) we stayed in a Family Suite (2 bedrooms/2bathrooms) on the 2nd floor towards the back of the hotel. This year, we stayed in the Family C2 Suite (has 2 rooms/2 bathrooms/and a very tiny parlor with an extremely hard couch and a TV) This was on the 3rd floor right in the middle of the hotel. The room setup worked well for us, because our kids sleep better in separate rooms and it was nice to have a "living room", even though extremely small, to watch movies in when the kids go to bed early without waking them up. The location of the room however, was EXTREMELY noisy. We could hear the people above us at all hours (every footstep, shower, toilet flush, kids crying, etc). It woke up our kids, and even my husband who typically sleeps through anything. Plus, being in the middle area of the hotel, we also had the noise from people walking by on the outside of the front doors. After the first night, we asked to be moved to the top floor. However the C2 suite was not available on the top floor, so we would have had to do a bigger suite (I didn't even realize there was one....it doesn't show one on their website) and pay $75 per night more. We decided it wasn't worth it and just dealt with it (since we might as well have stayed at a nicer hotel for the added cost- for example the Camelot was about that much more. Even though it isn't nicer, it was much quieter).
Other pros:
-The location (steps away from the Disneyland crosswalk- and about a 5 minute walk to the Disneyland gate) We could even see the fireworks out our window one night.
- It has a small shop for gifts and basic items you might need.
- They also offer a very minimal continental breakfast, but better than nothing.
- They have an indoor pool. We haven't ever used it however.
-The price for the size of the rooms in comparison to other comparable hotels
Other Cons:
- NOISY
- front desk staff not very "happy" or helpful. They are there to do their job and not much more. Each time we have arrived- we struggle through the door with all of our luggage, strollers, and kids, and have never had anyone offer to help hold the door open or do anything even through there is no one else in the lobby. They just watch you struggle through the door....not very good customer service, but for the price/quality of the hotel it can't be expected.
-The "continental breakfast" is just some icky pastries, oranges or apples, some bread to make toast, and some tang-like drink.
-The beds are pretty hard and uncomfortable...but doable for just a few nights.
The Desert Inn was pretty good for our first trip.....not good for this trip. We will definitely be trying something different next time. Maybe if you get a room on the top floor it will help? But we have decided that if we can't get any sleep due to the noise, the lower price isn't worth it!
Room Tip: Try to get a room on the top floor or one towards the back of the hotel. You can hear every noise f...
