“Good value, decent place”

I was a little apprehensive about this place due to the price of our 2-room family suite. Some of the negative reviews also had me worried, but after our 2 night stay, I feel we got a good deal; the room was clean and quiet, we slept well, and it is indeed within reasonable walking distance of Disneyland. Yes, it's about a 15-minute walk, but if you look at other hotels with "maingate" in their names, then look at just how close they actually are to the entrance, you'll see that this is closer than many of them. Also, the #10 shuttle stops right outside the hotel and takes you right to the park entrance for a small fee; I see someone complained that there is a fee, but it's cheap, and an option if you're too tired or out of shape to walk the short distance. I've used the "free" shuttles before, and this is much better. With very young kids, take the shuttle, but our grandkids ages 7&9 did fine, even returning after a long day when we didn't want to wait for the shuttle.

The room was a decent size, the second bedroom had a TV and its own air conditioner...the kids were thrilled with having their own room, and we enjoyed them having it. It's an older hotel, but not dingy or smelly like many older places, the TV's are old style CRT but large, the wireless internet works well, the continental "breakfast" is what I expected at the price...donuts, rolls, and juice/coffee. There's a refrigerator, microwave, and coffeemaker, the shower was hot and put out a good amount of water, there were enough towels, and overall it was a good place to stay. The office staff wasn't particularly friendly or helpful, but not bad...they were there to answer questions when needed. We didn't try the pool or hot tub, that's not what we were there for.

If you're looking for something fancy, mints on the bed, gourmet breakfast, and plush furnishings with a limo driver to take you to the park...or you step out your door and are right there in Fantasyland, keep on looking, but this is a very decent place that is close to Disneyland and at a good price. Having a Starbuck's right next door, and a convenience store right next to it made everything handy, but while there's a Taco bell on the corner, there's not much else around for food unless you get down nearer the park.

“Don't Stay”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2011

This Hotel was the biggest disappointment. Pictures must not be of the hotel it was soooo dirty walked across carpet feet were black. The hotel blamed it in the fireworks at Disneyland. LOL.
Beds were hard as a rock. Please don't waste your time and money go somewhere else..
Great location not walking distance, fireworks were great view from hotel. No free shuttle like they posted. Didn;t stay the whole time left went to a cleaner hotel.

“Great value for our needs.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 September 2011

Convenient service, clean room, good mattresses, a cup of coffee ready....just what we needed for a one night girls' get away. We checked in very early, with no difficulties, and spent our day enjoying each other's company at a conference near by. The free internet made it easy to do a few necessary office chores. Great value, as always!

“Not as advertised!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 April 2011 via mobile

This hotel was a huge disappointment. They advertised as a block from Disneyland, what they didn't mention is it's a block from the farthest corner. It's actually about 5 blocks. They also advertised a hotel shuttle but failed to state is that it is the city shuttle and you have to pay extra for it. Room was average. Shower was terrible-no pressure, beds were hard as rocks, and when we returned from Disneyland at 3pm they still hadn't cleaned our room. Would not recommend this place to anyone and I'm so thankful we didn't have to spend much time in the room.

“Overall good stay - just what we needed it to be!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2010

Although we were quite nervous about staying at this hotel based on the reviews of others on this and other websites, it turned out to be fine for what we paid for.

We stayed here for one night in early November 2010 after staying for a week at a timeshare in San Diego prior to staying at a hotel in downtown LA for a conference. We planned to visit Disneyland for two days and wanted to be close enough that we wouldn't have a long drive ahead of us after visiting the parks all day. We left the park midday to check in and went with the mindset that if it was too horrible we would find another room somewhere else instead. When we checked in we were pleasantly surprised! As many others have mentioned, you are not going to be staying at the Ritz. However, for $35 a night, we weren't expecting the Ritz.

Our room had 2 queens as we had requested (which was not guaranteed at the time we made the reservation). The bathroom was nothing special, but the shower had FABULOUS water pressure and very good temperature control. There were three of us in the room and we all showered in the morning - the hot water lasted for all three showers. There is a sink and counter area outside of the bathroom which was good because it meant that more than one person could get ready to go simultaneously. The bathroom and sink area both seemed perfectly clean and we had no complaints.

As has already been mentioned in another review, the room was somewhat dark. When we first arrived there were no lights on and the shades were pulled closed. We turned on the lights and left the shade drawn because we did not want the sun beating down on us heating up the room, and there was ample light - but it was by no means overly bright. The air conditioner seemed to work well when we first turned it on, but in the middle of the night we could hear it working but did not feel very cool. It appeared to be an older-style unit and it just might be time for them to be updated.

Also, the beds probably could use some updating. I obviously have no idea how new or old they are, but they are the hardest bed I have ever slept on. My father, who thoroughly enjoys a very hard bed, even said that this bed was a little bit too hard. (I will also say though that the comforter on the bed was probably one of the best that I have ever found in a hotel/resort!!!)

Because our stay was so short, we did not utilize the pool/hot tub, internet access, fridge/microwave or continental breakfast. The hotel is down the street from many fast food restaurants that were quick for us to stop at on the way to the park. To get from the hotel to the Disneyland parking lots (we were directed to the parking lots instead of the large parking structure by Disneyland workers/signs) there was one turn onto the main street where Disneyland is and then a second turn into the lot! It was that easy. We returned to the hotel after midnight and did not have trouble finding a parking space.

So - overall, we would choose to stay here again, but might ask for some extra pillows to help soften the blow of the mattress. To us, that was really the only downfall that we encountered during our stay. All in all, the proximity to the park is without a doubt this hotel's biggest selling point.
