I made a last-minute booking to a trade convention in Anaheim, CA, and couldn't find a hotel room anywhere near the convention center. Luckily, two colleagues were sharing a room at the Marriott and offered to let me stay with them, if the hotel could provide a roll-away bed. I have low back issues and was rather afraid of sleeping for two nights on one of these torture devices, but I was very pleasantly surprised at the quality of the firm foam mattress. I slept as comfortably those two nights as my colleagues on their double beds.
Further, the food at the Cafe Del Sol in the lobby was fabulous. The steak at JW's (also in the lobby) was good -- not great -- and the wine list was both very good and surprisingly affordable.
I should mention that I was attending the winter NAMM show (trade show for musical instrument manufacturers and dealers), so the atmosphere was loud and rockin' until 1:30 a.m. every morning, and the hotel staff handled it all tremendously well.
The one downside -- and it's a big one -- is lack of free wi-fi. $13/day for lobby access wi-fi seems a bit ridiculous. Even the Starbucks inside the hotel didn't offer their normal free wi-fi. C'mon, Marriott, get with the 21st century.
