Pros: Good sized rooms. Very clean, and well appointed. Comfortable - and quiet on most nights. Convenient enough proximity for touring Napa Valley. Friendly staff. Very good restaurant, and good service. Excellent banquet facilities and staff (we were there for over a week to provide educational lectures); the banquet room was always clean, and kept tidy throughout the day; the coffee, tea, etc service was constantly refreshed; the banquet staff was friendly and extremely helpful; the room was bright and pleasant; and the room was set up exactly as we requested each day - perfection!. Beautiful and peaceful courtyard, complete with swans.
Cons: Every day, I was oddly given fewer and fewer bathroom linens - on a couple days, I had only one hand towel and one washcloth - no bath towels, nothing else, and not even enough to get me through morning and evening washing. Also, the manager is not the friendliest person (can tolerate that) - but was insistent on putting pending charges on the credit card each day (which is typical); what is not typical is that he would charge the entire amount of that day's charges/fees on top of everything else he had already charged for every day prior (of course, this was just on hold - not the final charge). But, the charges on hold grew to so many thousands and thousands of dollars that my credit card ended up being shut down (not what you want when you are on a trip!) - when it should have just been accumulating holding/pending charges for each new day. Even discussing this with him, he could not see that there was something wrong with putting charges on hold/pending for the same thing each day. Just make sure to bring another credit card with you - in the end, the charges end up being right, but you have to have enough to get through your stay and the duplication of charges put on hold. Also, it gets rather rowdy on weekends - do not expect to sleep much if staying on a Friday or Saturday night; people (e.g., full grown adults?.?) go screaming or running down the hall continuously (at least when I was there - no sleep to be had). If you like to smoke pot without smoking pot, this is the place to go - every hotel will, from time to time, have "essence" of weed in the hallway. This place will have fog banks - not exactly the state I want to be in before giving a medical lecture. Although the spa services were very friendly, and I did enjoy my massage, I was rather "skeebed" out by the sauna - it had patchy black areas with fungus, and smelled of mold.
But, although the cons seem big, in the big picture, they were not (I was there over a week, so really got to know the place pretty well). The positives FAR out-weighed the cons, and it was comfortable, pleasant, clean (except for sauna). I was pleased - especially with the level of attentiveness and professionalism of the banquet staff and their facilities. I will definitely return again, be it for a Napa tour or for more lectures. It is a good place to go.
