While on a trip to John Day Oregon a friend and I stayed here. The clerk gave us some old towels to clean the road grime off our bikes. Near by is a decent Basque restraunt that we walked to. Rooms were large, clean and quiet.

My daughter and I were pleasantly surprised by this charming motel. Although it is obviously an older motel it is immaculately cared for and everything inside the rooms and outside in the common areas are in tip top shape. The American couple running the office were engaging and friendly. They make their customers feel at home from the moment they walk in and appear to take a personal interest in every client. All in all, the Rim Rock Motel in Alturas is a good experience. About all that can be said on the negative side is that those who dare venture outside in the evening will find the mosquitos to be ferocious. Be sure to put on repellant if you want to enjoy the twin lawn chairs sitting outside each room.

The Rim Rock Motel is confortable, quiet, and the rates are very affordable. The rooms are clean and the beds offer a good night's sleep. The grounds are well kept and scenic. The managers are friendly hosts. We look forward to our next stay.

We chose the Rim Rock Motel based on other reviews in the TripAdvisor - the motel was perfect. Room #15 was at the end of a small group of rooms; it was large, had the bathroom sink separate from the shower/toilet, which we liked. What we noticed right away were the comfortable chairs - even one upholstered reading chair! And the lighting for reading was excellent - rarely the case in any motel. The best: each room had two chairs and a table outside the room, I moved our chairs around the corner and instead of looking at the parking lot, enjoyed an unobstructed view of fields and then the Warner mountains in the east. There was a lovely sunset to cap the day. Although the refrigerator did not have ice trays, the motel office supplied a bucket of ice for evening libations - perfect.

There was a little road noise from Hwy 299 but nothing to disturb our sleep.

We found that Antonio's Italian restaurant delivered (the menu was in the room) and that was convenient, although the food was not anything to write home about.
