If you come to DC, just walking/driving up to the hotel, you can sense that this building is part of the story of DC. Since it's next to the White House, it is centrally located...if you like walking, you never need to take a cab. The lobby is ornate and you get the sense that folks in the early 20th century had the same feeling walking in as you do. The front desk service was a bit cold, truthfully...no southern hospitality or northeast sense of service here. I don't think the desk person ever made eye-contact once, but just kept his head down and interrogated us. I thought, at least when he gave us our room key he would look up to say "have a nice stay," but he just said something about our stay, put the key down for us and asked for the next person in line - and it wasn't all that busy in the lobby. The price is a bit high, but the location mitigates that and makes it worth it.
