“Great location / Dated decor”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

person found this review helpful

Two night stay in a Carriage room (split level) was adequate and clean, but in definitely need of attention. The coat closet in the entry no longer had a door, and the mirrored closet door sliders in the bedroom no longer slid. The decor in the room and in the lobby is in serious need of an update. Feels like a mid-80s take on a quasi historical Washington theme. Pleasant staff.

Thank you for sharing your comments with me and pointing out the great staff that works at The Latham Hotel. Our Carriage rooms are extremely unique and the favorite of many guests who frequent us often. We do have a renovation planned and the Carriage rooms will be one of the first room types to be addressed. Again, thank you for your feedback and keep an eye open regarding our future improvements.

“Quaint and reasonably priced, but rooms not consistent”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

I have stayed at the Latham twice in the past year. I have found the rooms to vary greatly and so have my colleagues Some are awkwardly configured with somewhat dated furniture, others are more standard in shape and size and don't look as shopworn. It never hurts to ask to be moved to another room - the staff seem pretty reasonable about such requests. However, I lucked out when last I stayed at the Latham in December. I arrived close to midnight and was given a duplex suite (with 2 bathrooms!), although I was paying for a standard room. Much appreciated! I would return on the off chance of such an upgrade again, also because of the Latham's central location in Georgetown and (always) comfortable beds,

Room Tip: It never hurts to ask to be moved to another room.

Thank you for taking the time and sharing your stay with me. We have the luxury of offering many room types at the Latham. This gives our guests and friends the flexibility to choose a room type that fits their individual needs. Once you have decided on your favorite room type. Please make certain you share that information when making your reservation and we will do our best to meet that request. Also, checking with our guest service agent at check-in is another avenue in getting you in that “right” room.
Thank you again for your thoughts and I hope to see you again at the Latham.

“great value and location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

We needed to be in Georgetown and found this location to be perfect. The hotel was offering a value rate and the price was dead on for the product. The room was exceptionally clean and everything worked. The furnishings were dated and re painted. You could spin this as a "green" solution to providing lodging. In our view we prefer a lower price and a dated product versus a modern room with a high room rate. The staff was superlative.

“getting shabby”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

stayed here several years ago and rebooked for xmas 2011. tiny room, tiny bathroom, no door between sink and main room, ancient television. lobby is still beautiful thanks to restaurant pull.

Room Tip: do not choose the small sized rooms, even if you need the second bed.

“A cheap Gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 December 2011

The Good
- We paid $150 a night for a two floor suite in Georgetown - Excellent
- Location in the middle of Georgetown
- Room service was excellent due the five star restaurant downstairs - Citronelle
- We had one of our best meals ever for two people at Citronelle, but we spend $670 on it!
- Ten minute walk to the Kennedy center
- Free wireless
- Front desk very helpful on all issues

The Bad
- Our room (633) was starting to look a little tired as shown by the worn carpet and pealing wall paper
- The valet parking was $40 a night, which I thought was steep but maybe not for downtown Georgetown
- This a three star hotel, but it has a lot of four star touches

Overall, if your rate is under $200 then you have a deal I would stay there.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms across the sixth floor bridge overlooking Georgetown
