“Awesome business hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

I stayed five days on business. This particular hotel is across the river from Reagan airport. The taxi costs about $11 base, and with the surcharges about $15. The taxi driver said there like are 3 Renaissance hotels in DC, but this one can be remembered easily by thinking about Herman Cain's 9-9-9; the address is 999 Ninth St. An option is to use the Metro, the nearest of which is about 3 or 4 blocks away.

My meetings were held in the hotel and I was impressed by the organization and ease of the meetings. The meetings were all conducted two levels below the ground, and the meeting rooms were exclusive (can easily enforce that participants wear badges, they even had security patrolling the area), easily accessible, with good arrangements for sound, beverages, temperature control, business services, even for shoe shines, and near food outlets. Since I was there for business, the cost was not an issue but I found that rates are about $245 per night.

My room is conveniently accessible from the meeting rooms; some rooms apparently are not. The lobby area is splendid and allows free wifi access. There are library-or cafe-style nooks where one can just sit down and pound on one's computer. In addition, stylish furniture and tables are placed strategically all over and allows comfortable surroundings. There is a Starbucks, and a deli at the ground level. We watched the Super Bowl from the Sports bar, and although it was expectedly crowded, there were enough television and staff to make the experience memorable.

The hotel is very close to Chinatown with all its unique restaurants. It is also close to the Smithsonian and DC monuments.

I was assigned to the 11th floor with a view of the inside atrium. I would have preferred one with an outside view, but forgot to request for one. The reception, the Navigator (concierge), housekeeping, phone operator bell hop, and other staff I encountered were all efficient, friendly and helpful. The elevators were quick. Each floor has a vending and ice machine. I love the Aveda rosemary mint shampoo and conditioner and lotion. The rooms are equipped with HD tv, small ref, coffee machine and supplies. I did not get a chance to use the fitness center, but heard others enjoyed use of the facility. I really enjoyed my stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with an outside view.

“Probably really a 2 but staff was outstanding”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

Stayed for 4 nights to attend a business meeting and found e staff to be outstanding. Desk clerks, maids, bell staff, and others were all very friendly and accommodating. Morning wake up call was live, with information on the days weather, and a kind welcome to our nations Capitol.

The lobby area is nice and appeared freshly remodeled, the rooms, not so much.

I had a king room on the 15th floor and the room was very small. The street noise was unbearable given the single pane windows. Walls were especially thin as you could hear conversations in adjacent rooms. My shower had mold around the top tiles and the room was just generally worn.

Rates during my stay were over $300 a night and I saw rates as high as nearly $500. For that price, I really expected better quality.

Room Tip: Ask for an interior facing room to avoid street noise.

“Above Average Downtown DC Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

Stayed here for four nights in January on a business trip and was satisfied with the property. The rooms were clean and up to date. The gym and Concierge Lounge at the hotel are some of the best that I have experienced in the Marriott system. The Concierge Lounge was easily twice the size of what you would expect and was open all day until 11pm. This was truly a great benefit. The gym is actually a fitness club that is located in the hotel that the guests can use (in addition to the club's outside members), so the equipment is of top quality and there are windows, etc. A huge improvement over the usual hotel basement gym. I would definitely return to this hotel if business travel brings me back to the area.

“Excellent Hotel for a DC business trip or city stop-over!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

Stayed here a few nights while my wife was at a conference up the street. The homeless great, well located within walking distance of major attractions, Chinatown, restaurants, shopping, the metro.

The hotel itself has a great lobby bar and sports bar.

Room Tip: 4th floor facing the lobby... You can access the FREE wireless in your room. Room based wireless is...

“Pretty good location but tiny rooms!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

This hotel is relatively close to two Metro stations (couple of blocks--closest to Chinatown station if you enter at the hard-to-notice entrance on 9th and G streets) and is right on the Red Circulator bus line. The rooms are very clean, as is the rest of the hotel (lobby, restaurant, hallways, etc.). Staff seemed very welcoming and willing to help if needed. However, the rooms are really small! Granted, we had 2 adults and 3 small children in the room, but there was barely room to walk around the beds. And the bathroom is microscopic! I would expect that from a cheaper hotel, but not when paying this much each night. May be too much information, but when you were sitting on the toilet, it was impossible to open or close the door--actually, even when the toilet was not occupied, the door came within 1/8th of an inch of the toilet. Just way too small. I also hate paying $13 a night for internet--so ridiculous--but that seems like the standard in that area.
