“A great value - beautiful hotel in a great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

Had a lovely one-night stay here - for the price and the location, it was way nicer than I was expecting. Beautiful rooms, comfortable beds, great lobby area (with a free latte/espresso machine!), good service... all in all, a great experience. It's an easy walk to either Dupont Circle or Woodley Park, and the location is one of the safest in the whole city. My only complaint would be that the wifi was too weak to use in our room, but worked fine in the lobby. I'll definitely try to stay here again on my next trip to DC!

“Normandy Hotel, couples den!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

We came by this hotel by way of LivingSocial.com. The deal was for a two night stay and we stayed at this boutique styled hotel the last two days of 2011. The hotel is walking distance from the metro station. We woke up early and went jogging and stopped into Starbuck's for an early morning cocoa and walked the city. There were several shops and eateries nearby. Our room overlooked an alley and we were disturbed by the trash truck and car alarms :/. It would have been nice if this hotel was situated on the main strip. The receptionist was very welcoming when we arrived, even offered to take our bags up stairs and if we wanted a morning newspaper delivered to our room. The hotel is small but beautifully decorated. We had a high room but our room was nice. We had bath robes and specialty spa toiletries. The room was clean and cozy. The in room latte machine did not work at all. The morning breakfast was nice. There were cereals, hot beverages, cold beverages, muffins, and a nice waitress to ensure that we had all that we needed. There is a computer and printer near the front desk if you need to print off reservations. We had a night out on the town and they were more than happy to call us a cab. The next day we ordered in and our food was brought right up. I would definately stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a view other than the alley.

What a lovely boutique hotel on Wyoming Ave near all the embassies! Stayed on a Saturday night and the experience was delightful. The room was decorated with good quality furnishings, and linens. The beds were very comfortable and the bathroom was fantastic! Everything was sparkling clean, well designed and new. There was even a light that came on automatically to light the floor if you entered the bathroom without turning on a light. The attention to detail was just what a true boutique hotel would offer: great soaps, thick towels, terry cloth robes, and a cappuccino / espresso maker in the room. In addition, there was complimentary wine and cheese in the lobby between 6 and 7 P.M. Also, when checking out, the front desk clerk offered us bottles of water and there were apples on a tray for the guests to take. Loved it and would heartily recommend The Normandy to others! (We were lucky enough to find on street parking, so we didn't have to pay for parking.

“Unprofessional customer service & poor security”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

While on the surface, the hotel is uniquely appointed and has nice small touches (e.g., complimentary wine/cheese hour, nice toiletries), there are major risks to staying here. My primary complaint about the Normandy Hotel is its POOR room security and unprofessional customer service. First, the staffperson tried to put me in a room on the first floor, which was adjacent to the interior noisy courtyard (when there were other better options available). After politely asking for other options since my reservation was for 9 nights, I was put in a room on the 5th floor, which was much better. HOWEVER, at 11:30 at night, I was disturbed by another guest trying to open my door; his key worked and my door was opened!! I was only saved from the door being fully opened because I had placed the manual lock in place. My immediate call to the front desk to report the security violation was met with no apology from the staffperson, nor any acknowledgment of how serious and unexcusable the error was... In fact, the staffperson hung up on me while I was still asking questions as to how the mistake occurred. The next day I reported the issue again, and I did not receive an explanation/apology from management when I specifically requested to speak to them during my visit (nor after I checked out). To add insult to injury, upon checkout, I was charged for the breakfast of the other guest who tried to enter my room. And, I am still waiting to receive my United points for my Doyle Collection stay, which they had no idea how to process upon check-in, but promised to resolve.

It's a beautiful hotel in a charming neighborhood...but until it improves its customer service and takes real steps to address customer satisfaction, I would AVOID this hotel.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for your recent feedback on Trip advisor regarding your experience at the Normandy Hotel. I wanted to personally reach out to you and express my sincere apologies regarding the issues that happened while staying with us and the luck to follow up by the management team.
Our guest's security breach is our top priority concern and I will be investigating this incident myself with our front office manager because I don't want it to occur again in my premises.

“Small Rooms; Friendly Staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

The Normandy is a small boutique hotel near Connecticut Ave. and "embassy row". The hotel is nicely furnished and well kept, but my room was very small. With luggage and ironing board out there was little spare space for me to move around. There were a couple maintenance issues with my room, but the hotel staff handled them well and in a friendly manner. The hotel has a 24/7 expresso / coffee machine in the lounge which I enjoyed.
