“SURPRISING: Nice place VERY helpful staff, great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

If you recall Holiday Inns as a kinda ok place for families, you will be surprised. If you have had lots of experience with ok, but not especially friendly front desk staff, you will be surprised. This is a well managed, attractive hotel that has a great location for several parts of DC, whether business or travel. As others have noted, it is quite close to the metro - but ask which entrance to come out of the METRO - depending on which exit you choose you, could be a 5 minute walk, or a 10-12 minute walk. I think 7th and D or 7th & Maryland is the closest, but check. (I forgot)

Unfortunately I forgot tooth brush, tooth paste, razor and shaving cream. Front desk staff immediately provided me with free replacement. Problem with tv? They dealt with hit.

This place is across the street from US Dept of Education (where I had meetings) and 2 blocks from Smithsonian Air & Space Museum.

Room Tip: Sounds like you want to be on the side that is NOT facing the railraod.

“Very Convenient”

Staff were very accommodating and professional. Easy walk from Metro, direct line from Ronald Reagan Airport. The room was clean and comfortable and I was lucky to get a room that faced the courtyard. As a single female in dc on business it was great, for walking and there is a taxi stand right outside. Close to museums and capitol.

Good location for going to the museums. Nothing close by at night. Get a room facing fRont. The back is a rail line that is quite load!

Thank you for commenting on our location. We are indeed very close to the museums and many of the city's historical monuments. Our hotel is located near numerous government office buildings and museums, providing a quiet and safe area for our guests. As far as night clubs and music venues, you are correct, there aren't any immediately in the vicinity. However, within 2 METRO stops, one can find a variety of restaurants, clubs and music venues.

“A little adult supervision, please!”

Bluntly, this place is run by 2-year-olds, with the work ethic of 102-year-olds. Oh, and it's LOUD. The VRE (train) runs right behind the building. But, really, it was the kids that roamed the halls like they were at a HS dance that really kept me awake at night. There are always kids in D.C., for some darn thing, but this was crazy!
And, I get it, they are teen-agers, they will be loud, but when I complained at 10 p.m. and then again at 11, nothing was done. The front desk treated it as a bother ...

Yes, the location is very good if you are up for the Smithsonian, mall and things like that. Just don't expect a good sleep. Yeah, I'm still cranky a week later ...

The exercise facility is also a joke. It's tiny with very, very little equipment. What's up with that?!

The bar was pretty good and the people there were nice and helpful -- thankfully. But $6 for a 12-oz. draft beer? The food was pretty good and reasonably priced.

The rooms are OK, but a bit rundown for the price (probably all the kids wrecking them).

Finally, the Metro is about five minutes away, so there's that.

I won't be back.

I'm sorry you experienced what you did at our hotel. Each year around the same time, there is a March in Washington, DC that brings many young people from all over the country. Numerous groups of these young people stay with us. They are supposed to be chaperoned during there stay. However, some chaperones are more diligent than others. I hope you will come visit us again. I believe you will have an entirely different experience.
Again my apologies.

“Noisy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

We had a four night stay here in December 2011. We were a family of four and had requested a room that would accomodate a roll away bed. Specifically chose this hotel as we were assured that the room would fit an extra bed. Well, the roll away fitted, but only just. There was very little room left to move around or to access our suitcases. We also found the train noise to be quite excessive. These are diesel trains which run until late at night and again in the early hours of the morning. The elevated track runs directly behind the hotel. On a positive note, the room and bathroom was clean.

While we found the hotel's proximity to the Washington Mall ideal, there is very little else to recommend the location. Apart from the two facilities on offer inside the hotel, and McDonalds and Quiznos outside, there is a dearth of eating options available locally at night.

We didn't find the staff very polite or helpful during our visit compared with other hotels we have stayed in. There was a convention on at the same time we were visiting and I note that staff were very busy with these guests.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the internal courtyard.

Thank you for commenting on our hotel for Trip Advisor. You are correct, there is a train track directly behind the hotel. For the light sleeper, it can cause some difficulty; however, we have numerous requests from guests for rooms on the train track side of the hotel. For many, they never hear the trains outside. Hopefully, next time you stay with us, you will mention that you would like to be on the courtyard or front side of the hotel.
