“Great for sightseeing vacationers”

I would give a 4.5 star rating, but not able to choose :) The biggest perk of this hotel is that it is just around the corner from the DuPont Circle Metro stop. There are a number of places to eat (casual and upscale) that are within a 5 minute walk. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Flight got in at 930 am, not sure if we were going to be able to check in early. Front desk clerk Wanda told us that our room was not ready but did switch us to another room so we could check in!!! We had our niece from Virginia stay with us for 2 nights. We did not know until 9 pm the first night that she was going to make it. I called down for a roll-away and it was brought to us 10 minutes later...with no charge on the bill!!! We went to the business center to print a coupon out and was told that the printers were not working, so an employee took us to the computer in the lobby and told us that we could use to print. The only negative thing is that our room was kinda small and the hotel is in need of some upgrading, but we were not there to stay in our room all day!!! Great place to stay if you are there for taking in all of the sights!!!!

“Okay, but not exceptional”

I stayed in this hotel on a high school trip last weekend. We came to the city for sightseeing and stayed two nights. It was an okay hotel- the staff was accommodating when we had questions. They gave me a toothbrush (I forgot mine) but it was very cheap and a one-use flimsy kind. The beds were comfortable, but the rooms were very small to house four girls in each. The bathroom was pretty nice but small. There is no conditioner in the rooms, but if you ask, they will give you some. The staff was great in providing us with extra towels and shampoo when we asked. This hotel seems as if it had been better in the past and is sliding a little downhill with new management. However, it served its purpose and was not terrible. The complimentary breakfast, however, was the worst that I have ever encountered. Hampton Inns, etc. have definitely much better free breakfasts. This hotel only has beverages, a pastry container, and granola. I recommend going out to somewhere else- many places within walking distance. (my favorites- Le Pain Quotidien, Starbucks, and Subway, all within 2 minutes walking)
The room smelled very musty the entire time we were there- a huge thumbs-down for that.
Also, the thermostat was broken, so our room remained much too hot. No one came to fix it when they said that they would send someone.
The best quality of this hotel is that it has a magnificent location- within walking distance to great restaurants, bookstores, a bus stop, the metro, and even Georgetown.
I think that the price is a little much for what you get, though.
A great nearby restaurant: Pizza Paradiso.

“Wedding weekend in DC”

This place is in a great location next to the DuPont Circle metro station. The hotel was clean and the service was very good. The price is good for DC. There is no restaurant or bar in the hotel, so no room service. In the area there are plenty bars and restaurants to fill this void. Don’t hesitate to stay here.

Room Tip: High floor away from the elevators

“Good for a short stay but missing longer stay amenities.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

I'm staying at this hotel right now--I'm a week into my 3 week stay here. I would very much recommend this hotel to any one if you plan to make it a short trip. The location is great. The hotel is quiet (not sure if my room is in a different section of the hotel vs other reviews--room 627). The rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable. I've found the staff is friendly and the valet is very helpful (but I should hope so since it's $35 a night). The free wifi is nice (but charging for the use of the business center next to embassy row is ridiculous).

But if you plan to be here longer than a weekend, you'll soon realize this hotel Is lacking on amenities. For example, there in no mini fridge in the room (but they have some by request). The only microwave is in the employee break room. They don't have a Landry room only very pricey Landry service. The free breakfast is nothing more than cereal, horrible coffee, pastries, and previously frozen fruit (not sure about what buffet they used to have but they don't have it anymore).

Bottom line: great hotel for the weekend but I will likely not stay here the next time I am here for a longer business trip.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor facing Massachusetts ave...great view

“Good location but rooms are small”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

I stayed at this hotel, which was a Hilton in April 2011, due to its location, which is close to Dupont Circle, lots of restaurant choices and a block from the metro. And therein lies the problem; my room was right over the metro line. I don't know what hours the metro runs, but it was long enough into the night that it interrupted my sleep.

The rooms are small, or at least I thought so until I saw my colleague's room. I would classify it as tiny. I was literally stumbling over my suitcases. This was probably the first time in my 30+ years of traveling that I should have considered sending my empty suitcases down to the bell captain for storage.

But the staff are really helpful and genuinely friendly. The buffet breakfast is excellent but not free, which another review would imply. But I imagine that would be subject to your negotiating power.
