“Decent Value But You Get What Your Pay For...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

I stayed at the Days Inn Connecticut Ave for one night on Jan 21st. I had chosen the property based on reviews I read on trip advisor and the fact that the hotel was such a great value in price. Let me preface this review by saying I prefer to stay in properties that are 3 stars or above and this property never claimed to be as such.

The good news is the price for the hotel is a GREAT value for Washington, DC. I am a local who grew up in the area and live in Baltimore, and I can assure you that you cannot find a better deal than this for a hotel in DC. This is also the nicest Days Inn property I have ever seen and the staff is charming and accomodating. The property is also located in a nice area with convienent metro access, which I would say is a must for any DC visitor!

Now for the not-so-good news. Although this is the "nicest" Days Inn property I have ever been in, it's still a Day's Inn. That being said, there are no frills to be found here. There is no free breakfast, you have to pay for parking (a norm in DC), and the rooms and property are truly just OK, by my standards. The first room that I was assigned had ripped sheets and odd stains on the comforter. I promptly requested a new room. The second room was better and the staff even allowed me to pick between a few rooms if I wanted because the hotel was at low capacity, which I thought was quite accomodating of them. The rooms are basic and a bit dated, adorned with old school floral bedding, drab carpeting, basic drapery and furniture etc. The buidling is old and the elevators leave much to be desired with some sort of faux concrete decorum on the walls that just appears dirty and industrial (in an unpleasant way). The hallways are dark and maze-esque with a musk odor. I could go on but you get the point.

If you are doing DC on a budget then this may be the right choice. But I must admit for a little more and probably trying your luck with something like Priceline's "Name Your Own Price" function you can probably find a more comfortable property to enjoy your DC experience.

Thank you so much for staying at our hotel, and for posting a review. I can tell by your review that you are well-versed in the DC area and in hotels in particular. Your review was full of insight. Our hotel is committed to continually improving the guest experience. Our goal is not to be the nicest Days Inn, but the best value in DC. We want our guests to feel they get a great and modern room for a wonderful value. that's why that although we do not have some of the amenities of other hotels, such as a pool, exercise room, or breakfast, that we compensate in other areas, such as Free Wi-Fi, 37" LCD HDTVs with over 70 channels in HD (one of the few hotels in the area with so many HD channels), and modern room amenities. Some aspects of your stay definitely cause alarm. We would like to rectify any issues you had during your stay, specifically the issues with your bedding. We've had a couple renovations in the last 4 years where we got all new bedding packages, and made efforts to get rid of all of our comforters. I assure you we will check every room to make sure there aren't some we overlooked. I apologize for you having to be in a room that wasn't updated. Feel free to call at the hotel at 202-244-5600, as we would like to rectify this situation with you. Thank you so much for your patronage.

“Stay Away”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

This hotel is definitely one to stay away from, even with the low rates that it offers. Having arrived around 2pm and requesting an early check in(check in is 3pm) we were promptly told that check in was at 3pm, and even though rooms were available we were told we had to wait one hour until 3pm, there was a great communication barrier as all the front desk and staff that we came into contact with were foreign. Next we checked into our room where we had a message indicator light on the phone flashing, called to front desk and they sent up maintence who replaced the phone, and the new one flashed, so for our entire stay the light flashed, had to call again, clock radio did not work, light bulbs in room blown, the room was extremely hot even though the heat was off, rooms extremely small, had to call desk again no coffee maker in room as advertised. queen bed was more like a large double and most uncomfortable, lamp shade's in room torn, stains on bed spread, asked maid for toilet paper as there was none in room, she asked "Why" I told her we had none to which she said she was off yesterday, I had to just grab the roll off her cart as she wanted to play 20 questions, as to why I needed toilet paper. Going back into my room, I heard her laughing with a co worker in the hall and I placed a do not disturb on the door, the maid pulled it off and threw it on the floor and again I heard laughing in front of my door. Folks it was not worth it, no service in this property so if you must stay here you have been warned. As for parking, a block down at veazley st. at the metro station, you will see a grocery store and drugstore on the ground level of the office building, there is a public parking garage here off veazley on the side of the building, 9 dollars a night. vs. the 20 the hotel wanted.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review on our hotel. I want to personally apologize for the many inconveniences you seemed to have faced while staying at our hotel. We at the Days Inn strive to offer the highest in customer service and value, and it is truly unfortunate your experience was less than satisfactory. While we always work to accomodate our guests, there are a few times when we are not able to check guests in before 3 PM. This usually occurs on Sundays, as we normally have an extremely high number of late checkouts. We always look to check guests in early, if possible, as it helps the guests to get into their rooms more quickly, and it helps ease the burden of having long check-in lines later. If at all possible, we prefer to check guests in early. We normally check in 8-10 rooms early, on average. I do apologize that we weren't able to get you in earlier than our 3 PM check-in time. It seems there was a lot of issues in your room, and that is definitely not indicative of a normal stay here. Please give me a call at the hotel at 202-244-5600 so we can better take care of your concerns.

Sincerely,
Leon Chittams

“No frills”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

This hotel is clean and comfortable. The staff is helpful. It is no frills, but the price is right. It is located within walking distance to the Van Ness Metro. Parking on-site is reasonable, as well. I have stayed here many times and would do so again. The only cons is that the walls are "thin" and so at times it can be noisy.

Room Tip: Try to ask for a room at the end of a hallway, as the walls are thin and it is better not to have to...

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on our hotel. We pride ourselves on being the best value in the area, and we appreciate when our guests enjoy their stays with us. We seem to get the suggestions on the walls alot, so we are currently looking into stepsd to improve that experience. Hopefully, we can come up with something. Our walls are completely concrete, so there must be something we can do Thanks again for your comment

“Nice rooms, staff could use more training”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

Stayed at the Days Inn on Connecticut Ave for 3 nights for a conference. The location is excellent as it is only 2 blocks walk from the Van Ness/UDC metro station. The rooms are nicely upgraded for a Days Inn with comfy beds. Beware that if you book a double room, the beds are full size, not queens. However, we had many small issues that amounted to a bothersome stay. First, check-in was unnecessarily complicated as I was confirmed for a 3 night reservation from Days Inn's website, but showed up on the hotel computer as only reserving a 1 night stay. After that issue was resolved, the room keys stopped working after 2 days of staying. It was easy enough to get the keys recoded at the front desk, but recoding one key also changes the codes in all the other keys, a complication when you're staying with another person. Storing luggage on the last day of our stay also led to some complications. The Days Inn was relatively inexpensive compared to other lodging options in the area, but I guess in this case, the service is what you pay for.

Thank you for posting a review on our hotel. We were glad you enjoyed the rooms, but want to apologize for the issues you had during your stay. We look at these reviews as a way to improve the customer experience, and will definitely follow up with our staff in training them to be more efficient. Our guests are always our #1 priority. All your issues sound like a lack of training on our part, and we will strive to correct them.
