“Return trip to washington with family”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

Difficult to chose a hotel in Washington as there are so many "gin palaces" We selected the Phoenix Park Hotel due to its location close to the grey hound bus and rail terminus. The hotel was pre paid however they insisted on the card swipe of my credit card which I refused. The first room was changed as we only had hot water from all the taps in the bathroom, even the plumber did not know why. The hotel is well situated, also for the sight seeing buses which leave just in front of the rail station. After a hard days sight seeing the hotels street side cafe is a most welcome place to eat and drink. Should we return to Washington the Phoenix Park Hotel would be on are wish list.

Great service. A block from Union Station allowing for an easy walk for train riders. They allowed us to check in early and held our bags after checkout so we could walk around until our train departed. Great food. Highly recommend.

Rooms are small and not what as listed. There are lots of false things promised such as hair dryers in the room marble vanities in the bathroom! mini-bars in the room all promised and not there! Carpet on the door way lifted and i fell on it! Bathroom not nice really old and toilet flushed slow the heater was so noisy and the alarm for smoke kept going off for no reason! Food left in the hallway from dinner there till next afternoon! this is not a nice place outside lots of noise from building going on. the only good thing is it is near lots of places. next time we will stay somewhere that cares!

Dear Jean M
Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We care about our guests’ experience and reviews such as yours allow us to continually improve our service. I am sorry to hear that your recent stay at the Phoenix Park did not meet your expectations. As a historic hotel, all of our 149 rooms are unique and have a different layout, and some of rooms have larger bathrooms than others. Our bathrooms are scheduled for renovation and all of our guestroom carpets will be replaced in 2012 to ensure our rooms continue to exceed our guests’ expectations. Although hairdryers are sometimes removed from our rooms, our Front Desk or Engineering Department will replace upon request. Mini-bars are not available in our rooms, however some do have refrigerators, and our Front Desk and Reservations department does their utmost to assign our guests to rooms that fit their requests and needs. I hope that during your next visit to Washington you will give us the opportunity to show you that we truly care about our guests at the Phoenix Park.

“charm and luxury with great staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

From the minute we walked in, the staff gave us a tip on free weekend parking nearby (rather than pricey valet), helped us plan our touring that day, and were generally friendly and happy to be there. The room was a gorgeous green and white palate - classy and peaceful, with quaint charm like old fashioned knobs in the shower and a stool by the bed. The bed and pillows were incredibly comfortable - soft and plush with crisp white linens. The location was ideal for all of the Mall Museums, and there were great breakfast places close nearby. We truly loved everything about our stay, and can't recommend this hotel enough!

Room Tip: some of the bigger rooms do NOT overlook the capitol building.

“Great location, lots of charm”

This hotel is very conveniently located for sightseeing, right beside Union Station. Everything works fine....elevators, shower, toilet, lighting etc., Flat screen TV in room, free wifi, fastest room-service I've ever come across (15 minutes) and a great, cheerful Irish Pub downstairs if you fancy turning some strangers into friends. The AC in the room was a bit tricky to find the right temp but otherwise the room was a decent size and they had that very nice touch, a warm and comfy bathrobe. Found the coffee pot dirty and the grounds bag from the previous occupant still in the hopper. Garbage cans being collected in the lane outside woke me at 4AM...not good....would ask at reception for a room away from the rear or side of the hotel. Reception staff were polite and friendly, also the bartenders, also the servers. Limo driver who got me to the airport raved about the owner's generosity to his employees. Good to hear, would probably stay again....in a different room at the front.
